Itinerary

5-Day Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to our hotel in Normandy for a four-night stay.

  • Day 2 - Day of Days

    We begin looking at Easy Company and the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment’s journey into Normandy. We look at the story of the American Airborne Pathfinders and visit the memorial to the Meehan Crash site. The original commander of Easy Company died in the opening moments of the operation.

    We then look at the story of how the men came together around the village of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, seeing locations here connected with their story including the local war memorial they were photographed in front of.

    After lunch, we look at the story of Lieutenant Speirs and the German prisoner of war and visit Marmion Farm at Ravenoville. We end the day at the Utah Beach Museum, looking at the seaborne and airborne link-up on D-Day, and seeing the Band of Brothers-related material in the museum.

  • Day 3 - Brecourt Manor & Sainte-Mère-Église

    We start the day by looking at where Richard Winters landed on D-Day. We follow his action to where he led men from the 506th in attack on a German Gun Battery site at Brecourt Manor, viewing the battlefield and seeing the memorials.

    We have lunchtime in Sainte-Mère-Église and then visit the superb Airborne Museum here.

    Later, we look at the 82nd Airborne tasks on D-Day, visiting the Iron Mike Memorial at La Fiere, the causeway and church at Cauquigny, and the memorial at Amfreville.

  • Day 4 - Carentan & Bloody Gulch

    We begin this morning at the Dead Man’s Corner Museum and the D-Day Experience, where we see items relating to the story of Easy Company, have a ride in a full-size Dakota Experience, and see the museum which was once a Fallschirmjäger headquarters in June 1944.

    We then look at the fighting for Carentan, seeing the Cole Memorial, and visiting sites in the town.

    After lunchtime here, we visit the Bloody Gulch battlefield, looking at Easy Company’s last major action in Normandy before they were withdrawn to Britain. We end the day at the Normandy American Cemetery.

  • Day 5 - Netherlands American Cemetery – Nijmegen

    Today, we depart Normandy and head for the Netherlands. In the afternoon, we go to the Netherlands American Cemetery and visit some of the Easy Company graves, including William Dukeman killed at the Crossroads battles, and Major Horton, who was a former Easy Company officer killed on the Island.

    We then travel to Nijmegen to look at the Crossing of the Waal River here by men from 82nd Airborne. We continue to our hotel in the Arnhem area for two nights.

  • Day 6 - Market Garden – The Island

    We begin near Eindhoven and look at the 101st Airborne drops, seeing where they landed, and then look at the fighting near Son and Nuenen, visiting the Easy Company Memorial.

    After lunch at Oosterbeek, we go to ‘The Island’ between Nijmegen and Arnhem. Here, we see the area where Winters led an attack in October 1944 along the banks of the Lower Rhine, as well as the distinctive headquarters building at Schoonderlogt Farm. We then see where they assisted survivors of the British 1st Airborne Division in Operation Pegasus II.

Accommodation

You will stay for four nights in the Caen area, at the Ibis Caen Porte de Bretagne or similar.
