Itinerary

  • DAY 1 Skipton
  • Make your own way to the Rendezvous Hotel, where your Tour Manager will be waiting. With the glorious scenery of the Yorkshire Dales on its doorstep and the windswept moors of Brontë Country within easy reach, the market town of Skipton is a great base for this holiday. This afternoon perhaps enjoy a stroll along the towpath of the LeedsLiverpool canal to the town centre, to see one of the best-preserved castles in the country. Get to know the group this evening over a drink and dinner.
  • DAY 2 Settle & River Ribble
  • Walk 12.8km/8 miles – 5 hours
The bustling little town of Settle is situated in one of the most scenic areas of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. On our 8-mile walk, which will include plenty of stops, we'll pass through fantastic scenery. We'll also see 17th century houses and inns, old cotton and snuff mills, limestone crags, caves and waterfalls. As we walk by the River Ribble, keep an eye out for herons and kingfishers, as well as salmon – the river is a key breeding ground for the endangered Atlantic salmon.
  • DAY 3 Haworth & Brontë Country
  • Walks 9.6km/6 miles – 4 hours
Haworth is a hilltop village which is famous for its connection with the Brontë sisters – Emily, Anne and Charlotte – who penned English literature classics including the epic love story Jane Eyre and the haunting Wuthering Heights. This is the heart of Brontë Country and you can explore the setting of the sisters' novels on one of two walks today.
The village and surrounding area also featured in the endearing film The Railway Children, and walk 1 will follow this route, passing the sites of disused mills and three quaint railway stations of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
Alternatively, join walk 2. We'll take the Brontë Way across open moorlands to reach the Brontë Waterfalls, thought to be the place the sisters headed when they were seeking inspiration for their writing. Other highlights are a chairshaped rock, where Emily would sit, and a ruined farmhouse said to be the inspiration for Wuthering Heights.
  • DAY 4 Buckden, Kettlewell & Grassington
  • Walk 17.7km/11 miles – 6 hours
Our final walk takes us along part of the Dales Way. Our route takes us from Buckden through the village of Kettlewell, one of the filming locations for the movie Calendar Girls, and we continue alongside drystone walls and rivers up to Grassington Moor. On the way why not stand atop Coniston Pie – a rocky outcrop which is a local landmark.
  • DAY 5 Skipton
  • Make your way home after breakfast.
