  • Day 2 Amboise to Chaumont-sur-Loire
  • Walk 17.7km/11 miles - 5hrs
The Loire Valley is known for its opulent châteaux, scenic villages and countryside dotted with vineyards. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000, and today, we'll set off to explore on the first of our guided walks.
Our trail takes us past fields and wineries and along the riverbank to Chaumont-sur-Loire. Rich in history, a château was built in the village around the year 1000 to keep a watchful eye over the border between Blois and Anjou. Most of the building we see today dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries, and every year an International Garden Festival is held in the château grounds.
  • Day 3 Amboise to Chenonceau
  • Walk 14.5km/9 miles - 4hrs
Today's walk takes us along the banks of the Cher River. We'll follow a beautiful trail through the Royal Forest of Amboise and will pass the spectacular Pagoda of Chanteloup. This exotic Chinese-style tower was built in 1775 and reaches a height of 44 metres. Those who make the climb to the top are rewarded with magnificent views over the forest and the Loire Valley.
We'll continue our walk to the famous Château of Chenonceau. Spanning the Cher River, this elegant castle is architecturally stunning, with a fascinating history and splendid formal gardens.
Later, we'll return to the hotel by coach.
  • Day 4 Amboise to Vouvray
  • via the Route de Saint Jacques de Compostelle
    Walk 17.7km/11 miles - 5hrs
The GR3 footpath stretches for nearly 1,300 kilometres and follows the course of the Loire, from its source at Mont Gerbier de Jonc all the way to its estuary on the Atlantic coast. Today's walk takes us along part of the footpath as we head to Montlouis-sur-Loire. This area is renowned for its white wine and Pineau, a type of fortified wine, and we'll stop at a vineyard for lunch and a tasting. We'll then cross the river and follow the north bank to the famous village of Vouvray, where a number of wine cellars are open to the public.
  • Day 5 Amboise to UK
  • After breakfast we will transfer you to the railway station in Tours for the journey back to the UK.
