  • Day 1 UK to Kathmandu

  • Day 2 Kathmandu
  • At our hotel we'll have a cookery class, eating the food we create for dinner.
  • Day 3 Kathmandu
  • Early this morning we will drive to the village of Pharping, a sacred Buddhist site, where pilgrims visit holy caves and many monasteries have been built. Our trip includes a visit to the beautiful Neydo Monastery, which is home to around 200 monks, and if time allows we will participate in a morning prayer ceremony and hear the chanting of the monks. Afterwards we'll take a tour of this sacred building and immerse ourselves in its beauty. We'll see its large Buddha statue and then have a simple breakfast in the monastery, something very few people get to experience! After breakfast, there's another treat in store as we walk around the surrounding area to see how local people live their lives. There will also be an opportunity to visit Arya Tara School, one of the very few nunneries in Nepal.
Later, on a half-day tour of Kathmandu City, we'll see the temple of the Living Goddess and the Kasthamandap – one of Nepal's largest pagodas. We'll also take in the bustling tourist district of Thamel.
  • Day 4 Panauti
  • Walk 10km/6.2m - 4-5hrs
After visiting the Budhanilkantha Temple, we'll drive to Sanga, home of the tallest Shiva statue in the world, and the start point for our walk to Panauti town. This is an exceptionally beautiful region and after the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, the crisp clean air and great outdoors will come as refreshing change.
Our hike will take about four hours and begins with a steep ascent, before levelling off. We'll follow paths used mainly by local villagers and take in wonderful views of rice fields and farmland. If the weather is clear we'll also see the Himalayas in the distance. Panauti is a wonderful town surrounded by rolling countryside and is regarded as one of the best-preserved Newari settlements in Nepal. When we arrive we'll enjoy lunch with a local family in their home, and afterwards they will show us around the town before we make our way back to Kathmandu. Back at the hotel we'll enjoy a talk by an Everest summiteer.
  • Day 5 Chitwan
  • Today we'll drive to Chitwan, where we'll experience a canoe ride or visit a traditional village.
  • Day 6 Chitwan
  • Located in the foothills of the Churla mountain range, Chitwan National Park is famous for its variety of wildlife, notably the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros and the elusive Bengal tiger. Here you'll enjoy a Jeep safari before returning this evening.
  • Day 7 Pokhara
  • Today we head to Pokhara, wonderfully placed for close-up views of the Himalayas. This evening why not join us on an optional excursion to the Peace stupa. From our hotel we'll sail across the lake and then hike up to the World Peace Pagoda, a brilliant-white structure built by Buddhist monks. Our return journey to the hotel will be by coach.
  • Day 8 Dhampus
  • Walk 10km/6.2m - 5-6 hrs
After breakfast we'll drive to Kande for our trek to Dhampus. We'll make our way along rough trails and up steep steps to Australian Camp. From here we'll have panoramic views of the Annapurna Mountains, Phewa Lake, Pokhara City and the World Peace Pagoda. Our walk then takes us downhill to Dhampus, where we will have some time to relax and explore. We'll then descend to Phedi on foot and return to Pokhara by coach.
  • Day 9 Pokhara
  • There's plenty of time to explore Pokhara today and enjoy a cruise on Phewa Lake.
  • Day 10 Patan
  • 2.5 hrs visiting both Villages
Following our morning flight to Kathmandu, we'll head to Patan for a traditional lunch. Afterwards, we're going to experience authentic, day-to-day life in the Kathmandu Valley. We're going to explore the Newari villages of Bungamati and Khokana on foot. Bungamati's streets are paved with flagstones and lined by rows of brick-built houses. Many of the locals are woodcarvers, and legend has it that the Rain God resides in a temple here during the winter. In Khokana, mustard oil is made using traditional methods, and villagers can sometimes be seen in the markets of Kathmandu, selling their oil from two tin drums suspended on a pole across their shoulders.
  • Day 11 Bhaktapur
  • Bhaktapur houses the palace of 55 windows and the Nyatapola Temple – the highest in Nepal. A farewell dinner is served in a restaurant in Kathmandu this evening, followed by a cultural show.
  • Days 12 & 13 Kathmandu to UK
  • We'll transfer to the airport on day 12 for our flight back to the UK via Abu Dhabi, arriving on day 13.
