  • Day 1 UK to Anchorage
  • Today you'll fly to Anchorage, via Reykjavik. On arrival we will transfer you to your hotel.
  • Day 2 Anchorage
  • Surrounded by mountains and set in a fabulous location at the head of Cook Inlet, Anchorage offers all the amenities of any modern US city. It was founded as a railroad construction camp in 1915 and we'll discover its highlights on a tour. We'll explore the historic downtown area, try to spot salmon swimming in Ship Creek and visit Earthquake Park, where an entire neighbourhood slid into the ocean during an earthquake in 1964.

Get to know your travelling companions better over a welcome dinner this evening.

  • Day 3 Seward
  • We're going to take to the road and head to Seward today. Our scenic route will take us alongside the beautiful shore of Turnagain Arm and we will make a stop to ride the aerial tram to the top of Mount Alyeska. We'll take in spectacular views of the waterway, mountains and hanging glaciers, so be sure to have your camera at the ready.

Seward is one of Alaska's oldest towns and when we arrive we'll visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preserving the area's wildlife. Orphaned black and brown bears, moose and lynx are just some of the species found at the centre.

  • Day 4 Seward
  • Seward is situated on the Kenai Peninsula at the head of Resurrection Bay. Today we're going to cruise through the beautiful scenery of the Kenai Fjords National Park. We'll keep our fingers crossed for wildlife sightings and enjoy a buffet lunch, with freshly-prepared salmon and prime rib on the menu!
  • Day 5 Talkeetna
  • After breakfast we're going to make our way to the historic mining and railway town of Talkeetna. We'll travel back along the shores of Turnagain Arm and north of Anchoragethrough the fertile Matanuska-Susitna Valley. The streets of Talkeetna are lined with log cabins and timber-clad houses and the town is known for its thriving arts community. After settling in at the hotel, you may wish to visit some of its galleries in the company of your travelling companions.
  • Day 6 Denali National Park
  • We will enjoy fantastic views today as we travel towards our next destination, Denali National Park. Look out for wildlife, such as bears and beavers, as we head to our cabins near the park's entrance.
  • Day 7 Denali National Park
  • Moose, Dall sheep, wolves, bears and caribou all make their home in Denali National Park and we're going in search of them on today's Tundra Wilderness Tour. We'll set off early and travel deep into the national park on an unforgettable eight-hour narrated adventure. We'll soak up the parks' incredible scenery and may even get to see Denali, the tallest peak in North America at more than 6,100 metres above sea level. A boxed lunch is included today.
  • Day 8 Fairbanks
  • Alaska's second largest city, Fairbanks, is where we'll head today. The Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center is one of its main attractions and we'll see it on our included tour. We'll also take in historic Pioneer Park and view a section of the Alyeska Pipeline, a feat of engineering that carries oil for hundreds of miles across the wilderness of Alaska. North Pole, a town which keeps the Christmas spirit alive all year long, is another highlight of today's tour.
  • Day 9 Fairbanks
  • Fairbanks is known as the Golden Heart City, thanks to its gold-mining history and the friendliness of its people. Today you're free to explore at leisure with your travelling companions. You could perhaps take a walk along the banks of the Chena River or browse the range of Alaskan handicrafts displayed in the local shops. Alternatively you could strike it rich on our optional excursion to Gold Dredge 8. We'll take a ride on a replica of the Tanana Valley Railroad and learn about Alaska's gold mining history. There will be an opportunity to see how the dredge worked the gold fields and finally we'll have a go at panning for gold ourselves!
  • Day 10 Valdez
  • Our adventure continues today as we travel to Valdez, a city on the shores of Prince William Sound. Our journey takes us along Alaska's oldest highway, the Richardson, past lush farms and magnificent mountains. This evening is yours to do just as you please, you could perhaps head out and explore the harbour with your fellow travellers.
  • Day 11 Valdez
  • Prince William Sound is prized for its stunning coastal scenery, tidewater glaciers and abundance of wildlife, both in and out of the water. We'll explore its beauty on a cruise today, so keep your eyes peeled for sea lions, puffins, seals, eagles, otters, bears and even whales. We will sail past impressive hanging glaciers and forest-covered mountains and stop at the huge, rapidly retreating Columbia Glacier. If we're lucky, we may see it calving, when chunks of ice break off and crash into the water. Lunch is included today.
  • Day 12 Anchorage
  • After an early breakfast we will make our way back to Anchorage, driving along the Glenn Highway, which is recognised as a National Scenic Byway. It runs alongside the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and we'll enjoy breathtaking views of huge glaciers, towering mountains and scenic river valleys.
