  • DAY 2 Washington DC
  • Today we'll discover the highlights of Washington DC on a guided tour. From Alexandria we'll see the Pentagon and the Arlington National Cemetery before crossing the river to the USA's capital. Iconic sights lining the National Mall to the Capitol Building include the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, and of course, we'll make a stop at the White House. There is so much to see and do in Washington DC, so we've left this afternoon free for you to explore independently or in the company of your travelling companions. The Smithsonian is a collection of 19 world-class museums – all are free to enter and most are located around the mall.
  • DAY 3 Alexandria & Mount Vernon
  • Our included tour today begins with a stroll through Old Town Alexandria, whose main thoroughfare King Street is lined with vibrant restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and pubs, and boasts a wealth of 18th century architecture. We'll head to the marina, where we'll board a boat for a river cruise to George Washington's Mount Vernon. This is the grand plantation house where the 1st US President lived with his wife, Martha. Step ashore to explore this 21-room mansion, intriguing museum exhibits, beautiful grounds and more. After cruising back to Alexandria why not head to one of the pubs near the hotel for a drink with your fellow travellers.
  • DAY 4 Lancaster
  • Our tour continues today as we head to Lancaster County. Less than three hours' drive from the heart of American government, we'll discover America's oldest Amish settlement. On a tour of the Dutch Country this morning we'll meet the people who live a centuries-old 'Plain' lifestyle and see how windmills are used to harness the power of nature and the horse and buggy is the primary form of transport. Perhaps take a ride in one before we head to our hotel for an overnight stay.
  • DAY 5 Philadelphia
  • There's time this morning to have a stroll around Lancaster City, which hosts the oldest continuously operating farmers' market in the USA. En route to Philadelphia, where we stay for two nights, we visit Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania's Brandywine Valley. Here an afternoon tour will introduce us to a huge expanse of woodlands, formal gardens and meadows.
  • DAY 6 Philadelphia
  • The USA's original capital is a liberal melting pot of people and cultures. It's here that the Declaration of Independence was written, signed and introduced in 1776, and our tour will show you all its highlights. The 'most historic square mile in the United States' features the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Congress Hall and Christ Church, where George Washington and Benjamin Franklin once worshipped. Admire the city's tallest building, the Comcast Center and stroll along Benjamin Franklin Parkway, where there are many museums including the renowned Franklin Institute, the Rodin Museum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. During free time this afternoon, why not join our optional visit to the Eastern State Penitentiary. Once the world's most famous prison, which held notorious criminals including Al Capone, it now serves as a fascinating museum.
  • DAY 7 New York
  • Today we head to the thrilling city of New York, where a 3-night stay gives you plenty of time to discover its numerous famous highlights. On arrival, we'll enjoy a tour with a Local Guide who will introduce sights such as the Empire State Building, Wall Street, Broadway, the World Trade Center site, Chinatown and Times Square. The rest of the day is free, so you can head off and explore this fabulous 24-hour city at your own pace.
  • DAY 8 New York
  • With today at leisure, it's completely up to you what you do. Your Tour Manager will be able to point you in the right direction, all you have to do is decide which attractions you want to visit. Perhaps check out the shops on Fifth Avenue or take a horse and carriage ride through Central Park. Step inside St Patrick's Cathedral, or spend the day exploring museums including the Guggenheim, the Museum of Modern Art or the American Museum of Natural History. You can also choose from a range of optional excursions which include a lunch cruise on the Bateaux New York and a thrilling helicopter ride over the Manhattan skyline. During an evening at leisure, why not catch a Broadway Show with your fellow travellers.

Here, we include a visit to Mystic Seaport, a fascinating maritime museum which features a replica 19th century coastal village, a working shipyard and more than 500 historic vessels. We'll then continue to Plymouth in Massachusets, where we'll stay for two nights.
  • DAY 11 Plymouth
  • A quintessential New England town, Plymouth is where America's founding fathers first set foot in the New World in 1620.
