  • DAY 1 UK to Boston, Massachusetts
  • Today you'll fly to Boston, transferring to the town of Braintree on arrival. After time to freshen up, we'll get to know one another better over a welcome drink.
  • DAY 2 Bar Harbor, Maine
  • We leave Braintree this morning and head to the Maine coast. En route we'll make a stop in the coastal New England village of Kennebunkport, which was the summer home of former US President George Bush. We can admire the beautiful historic houses here and browse the wonderful boutiques and craft shops, before continuing our journey north to the town of Bar Harbor, your gateway to Acadia National Park.

  • DAY 3 Sebasco Harbor, Maine
  • Acadia is New England's only National Park. Covering some 47,000 acres, it's a wilderness of rocky coastline, majestic mountains, glistening ponds and lush green forest, and today we'll take a scenic tour along the Loop Road. We'll admire the views from Frenchman Bay Overlook, see the fabulous Sand Beach and wind our way up to the summit of Mount Cadillac before returning to Bar Harbor in the early afternoon. After time to explore this picturesque little town we'll continue on to Sebasco Harbor, where our hotel is set amidst acres of garden and woodland.
  • DAY 4 Boothbay Harbor, Maine
  • This morning we head to the charming coastal town of Boothbay Harbor, often described as the boating capital of New England. Pristine Victorian houses overlook the waterfront and we'll enjoy a cruise along the coast before returning to our hotel for an afternoon at leisure. You could choose to take a dip in the harbour-edge swimming pool, stroll through the gardens with your travelling companions or perhaps treat yourself to a relaxing treatment in the spa.
  • DAY 5 Lincoln, New Hampshire
  • We say farewell to Sebasco Harbor today and drive south to Portland, the largest city in Maine. Situated in a fabulous location on the Casco Bay Peninsula, it was founded in 1633 and soon became New England's largest port. Here we'll take a stroll through the Old Port district, the city's revitalised waterfront, where working wharfs blend seamlessly with trendy cafés, boutiques and bars. Our journey continues to Lincoln, a delightful town set in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and our home for the next two nights.
  • DAY 6 White Mountains, New Hampshire
  • Today we'll enjoy a full-day tour of the White Mountains and admire the area's spectacular scenic beauty.
Our first port of call is North Conway, a charming little town with an incredible array of shops and an impressive outlet village. We'll continue on through Bretton Woods to Flume Gorge, a stunning narrow chasm at the foot of Mount Liberty. In places, its granite walls are 27 metres high and a variety of ferns, mosses and flowers grow in the crevices of the rock. Our journey back to Lincoln takes us along the Kancamagus Highway, said to be one of the most scenic routes in New England. Running alongside the Swift River, it takes us through the White Mountain National Forest and offers breathtakingly beautiful views of the landscape.

  • DAY 7 Green Mountains, Vermont
  • This morning we drive along winding roads to Vermont. Our journey takes us through quaint villages to Weston, where we'll step inside the famous Vermont Country Store, a nostalgic shop which sells products and brands from a bygone era. Next there will be time for lunch in Manchester if you wish, before we drive along the Shires of Vermont Byway. Nestled between the Taconic and Green Mountains, this scenic road takes us through quintessential New England towns and villages as we make our way to Pittsfield for an overnight stay.

  • DAY 8 Rhode Island
  • Our journey today takes us through the picturesque Berkshires to Rhode Island, one of the smallest states in America. We learn about the history, architecture and culture of its capital, Providence, on an included afternoon tour. We then head to nearby Warwick, where a two-night stay has been arranged.
  • DAY 9 Rhode Island
  • Today we include a sightseeing tour of Newport, the Rhode Island city known for its historic mansions of the Gilded Age. We'll begin in the Old Town, where highlights include sights dating back to the 17th century and the church where John F Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953. We'll see some of the city's magnificent 19th century mansions when we drive along Millionaire Row, and will take a tour the grandest mansion of all, The Breakers, which was once owned by the Vanderbilt family.
Before returning to the hotel you'll have time to explore Newport's Brick Market Place and waterfront with your travelling companions.

  • DAY 10 Cape Cod, Massachusetts
  • After leaving Rhode Island we'll cross the Cape Cod Canal and drive along the beautiful Cape Cod National Seashore. Our first stop will be in Chatham, a beautiful town where Chatham Light overlooks a stunning beach and guides ships along the coast. Later you'll have time at leisure to explore cosmopolitan Provincetown, which sits at the northern tip of the Cape, before we head to Hyannis for an overnight stay.
