Itinerary

  • DAY 1 UK to Cascais
  • You'll fly to Lisbon today, and on arrival we'll transfer you to your hotel, which is located in Cascais, on the Lisbon Coast. Once a sleepy fishing village, this stylish seaside resort boasts fine beaches, picturesque parks and gardens and a charming old town. The main street, Rua Direita, is the place to shop for local handicrafts during free time, and the Paula Rego Museum showcases works by this renowned Portuguese artist.
You can get to know your travelling companions over a welcome drink before dinner at the hotel this evening.
  • Day 2 Christmas Eve Sintra & Cabo da Roca
  • This morning we'll travel to the charming region of Sintra. Located in the forests of the Serra Mountains, this picturesque town is dotted with beautiful villas and palaces which were the summer residences of the kings of Portugal. We'll see the wonderfully preserved National Palace, which dates back over 1,000 years, before we have the chance to take in the dramatic surroundings of Cabo da Roca lighthouse. Sitting on a promontory jutting out into the Atlantic, this is the most westerly point in mainland Europe.
Back at the hotel, a special Christmas Eve dinner will be served this evening.
  • Day 3 CHRISTMAS DAY Cascais
  • It's Christmas Day, so you can spend the day doing just as you please. Relax at your hotel or perhaps take a stroll along the Cascais Marina. Make sure you're back in time for Christmas lunch with all the trimmings.
The rest of the day is at leisure, with a Portuguese festive dinner served this evening.
  • Day 4 BOXING DAY Lisbon
  • We'll get out and about today as we explore Portugal's elegant capital, Lisbon. The city is home to many historic attractions, and our guided walk begins as we make our way through the narrow medieval alleyways of the Alfama District, crowned by an ancient castle. We'll then admire the UNESCO-listed Belém Tower, which was the starting point of many sea voyages in the 16th century and is a symbol of Portugal's power during the Age of Discovery.
We'll round off our tour as we head inside the Maritime Museum. Among the items on display is a figure of the Archangel Raphael that journeyed with Vasco da Gama on his expedition to India.
At this time of year, Lisbon is also renowned for its spectacular festive lights, which will add a touch of magic to our day out. If there's time, be sure to try a 'pastéis de Belém', a deliciously sweet pastry.
Back at the hotel, we'll gather again for dinner this evening.
  • Day 5 Cascais to UK
  • Today we'll transfer to Lisbon airport for our flight back to the UK.
