Gather with your travelling companions this evening for a welcome drink before dinner.
  • Day 2 Funchal
  • We'll get out and about this morning to discover Funchal's highlights. First we'll call at the Regional Market, where stalls overflow with exotic fruit and vegetables and locally caught fish. Next we'll visit the splendid Botanical Gardens, where a huge variety of plants and flowers are on display. The views overlooking Funchal are also pretty spectacular from here! Madeira is known for its embroidery, and we'll visit an embroidery factory to see the local women at work. Our final stop today is at a traditional wine lodge for a tasting of the famous Madeira wine.
The rest of the day is free for you to spend as you wish.
  • Day 3 Western island tour
  • You can spend today at leisure. Or if you'd like to discover more of this beautiful island why not join our optional tour. We'll head inland to take in breathtaking views of the island's picturesque landscape, before we continue to the rugged north coast. Here, we'll see the waterfalls of the delightful village of Sao Vicente and the volcanic rock pools at Porto Moniz.
  • Day 4 East island tour
  • After breakfast we'll set off on an included island tour to discover even more of beautiful Madeira. We'll visit the village of Camacha today and we'll have a tour of the wickerwork centre here.
We'll continue up to Pico do Arieiro, one of the highest mountains on the island. As we descend, a stop will be made at a trout hatchery located in a beautiful garden of rare trees and endemic island plants, and we'll also call at Santana to see the typical houses of the region. Lunch with drinks is included today.

  • Day 5 CHRISTMAS EVE Monte & Eira do Serrado
  • Today you can choose to join our optional half-day trip to Monte and Eira do Serrado. First we'll stop at the Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint to enjoy superb views over Funchal. We'll then wind our way up the mountain to Eira do Serrado. From here we can take in more lovely views, this time over the village of Curral das Freiras, or Nuns Valley. From here we'll travel through the hills to Monte, a picturesque hamlet situated above Funchal, which is famed for its beautiful church, pretty public gardens and the famous toboggan run. If you would like to be whisked 2km downhill in a wicker and wood toboggan, you'll be in for a unique and thrilling treat. We'll see you at the bottom!

Back at the hotel this evening we're going to gather together to enjoy a Christmas Eve gala dinner with drinks included.

  • Day 6 CHRISTMAS DAY Funchal
  • It's Christmas Day, so after breakfast spend the morning at leisure enjoying the hotel's facilities or simply relaxing. Later you might choose to work up an appetite with a few laps of the indoor swimming pool before a festive Christmas dinner with drinks is served this evening.
  • Day 7 BOXING DAY Levada walk
  • A day of discovery lies ahead today as we head off on a walk along the island's water channels, which are known as levadas. We'll take in beautiful views as we stroll through the emerald-green Paradise Valley, from where we'll be able to gaze across at quaint isolated villages including lovely Camacha. Known as 'the village of basket-makers', this is the centre of Madeira's willow craft industry.
Continuing our walk, we'll head along a flower-lined levada, which sits beneath a canopy of eucalyptus and oak trees.
Back at the hotel, we'll gather this evening for a farewell get-together.
  • Day 8 Funchal to UK
  • Today we'll transfer to Funchal airport for our flight back to the UK.
