Not Included

  • Day 1 UK to Dresden
  • Today you'll fly to Prague, where we'll transfer you to your hotel in Dresden, in the German state of Saxony. Take time to settle into your room before gathering with your travelling companions for some warming mulled wine, followed by a welcome dinner.
  • Day 2 Dresden
  • We'll spend today getting to know the fascinating story of Dresden. Before the Second World War, this elegant city on the banks of the Elbe River boasted an array of architectural treasures, including picturesque palaces, graceful churches and classical buildings. It was all but destroyed by Allied bombing in 1945 and has since been faithfully restored to its former glory. We'll explore by coach and on foot, giving you a chance to see some of the city's most remarkable buildings up close. Highlights include the Zwinger, an ornate palace inspired by Versailles and the beautiful Frauenkirche - arguably the city's most iconic landmark.
Later on, you'll have some free time to soak up the atmosphere at Dresden's famous Christmas market. It's said to be one of the oldest in Germany and as you browse stalls selling handicrafts and regional specialities, you'll be surrounded by twinkling lights, Christmas carols and a wonderful aroma of mulled wine and gingerbread.
The festivities continue back at the hotel, when we enjoy a delicious dinner together.
  • Day 3 Christmas Eve Dresden
  • After a leisurely breakfast we'll head off for a guided tour of the Royal Palace. Dating back to the 15th century, this spectacular building, which was burned to the ground during the Second World War, has now been reconstructed as a museum complex. Prepare to be dazzled as we step inside the Historic Green Vault, where a large collection of precious treasures await, including valuable natural products such as ostrich eggs and rock crystals, and some exquisite pieces of jewellery.
Enjoy some free time to explore the city at your own pace this afternoon.
  • Day 4 Christmas Day Moritzburg
  • We'll step into a fairy tale today as we head to Moritzburg, a picture-perfect town best known for its elegant castle. After a coach ride to pretty Radebeul – where acres of vineyards make for a photogenic setting – we'll catch a narrow-gauge steam train to Moritzburg. Once there, you'll have free time to discover the highlights and enjoy a scenic walk to the beautiful castle, which is surrounded by a vast moat-like lake.
Back in Dresden, we'll get together to enjoy a Christmas Day buffet at the hotel.
  • Day 5 Boxing Day Dresden
  • Dresden's Old Masters Pictures Gallery is widely considered to be among the most significant art museums in the world – and today we'll dive right into this treasure trove on an in-depth guided tour.
Next, it's time to take to the water, with a sightseeing trip down the sparkling Elbe. Keep your fingers cosy and your stomach happy with a glass of warm mulled wine and a hearty slice of stollen.
After a free afternoon to spend however you choose, we'll meet at the hotel for dinner.
  • Day 6 Meissen
  • This morning it's off to Meissen, one of the great gems of Saxony. Straddling the Elbe, the town is studded with striking Gothic buildings like Albrechtsburg Castle and Meissen Cathedral. It's also famous for its porcelain, and our excursion today will take in Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. Here you can watch craftsmen at work, gain an insight into how the porcelain is produced and browse the many items on display in the museum.
Later, there's free time for some last-minute shopping amid the twinkling lights of the town's Christmas market, and then we'll head to stately Wackerbarth Castle for a guided wine tour and tasting.
We'll then make our way back to Dresden for our farewell meal at the hotel.
  • Day 7 Dresden to UK
  • After one last breakfast together, we'll transfer you to the airport for your flight back home.
