Itinerary

  • DAY 1 Stratford-Upon-Avon
  • Make your own way to Stratford-Upon-Avon today, which is just a stone's throw from the beauty of the Cotswolds' rolling countryside. The Hallmark Hotel The Welcombe is surrounded by 157 acres of landscaped grounds and features a host of excellent facilities including a leisure club with indoor swimming pool. Your Tour Manager will be waiting in reception to greet you and assist with check in.
After you've settled into your comfortable room, join your fellow travellers for a welcome drink in the bar before dinner.
  • DAY 2 Stow-on-the-Wold & Bourton-on-the-Water
  • Today we'll discover Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-water. There are so many options – you can choose to join one or two guided walks in the company of a Local Guide, or you can head off and discover these delightful Cotswold towns at your own pace.
The first of our easy walks, over four miles, will take us through beautiful countryside from Stow-on-the-Wold to Lower Slaughter, with its restored mill. We continue to Bourton-on-the-water, which straddles the River Windrush and boasts elegant low bridges and traditional stone-built houses. This afternoon we embark on the second of our walks, which is a four-mile circular stroll through the surrounding countryside.
If you decide not to walk you can browse an array of shops in the market town of Stow-on-the Wold, which sell everything from antiques to local crafts. Bourton-on-the-Water also offers plenty to keep you occupied. There's a Model Village depicting the town as it was in the 1930s, Birdland, where you'll see a variety of exotic birds including penguins, and the Cotswolds Perfumery, a family-run business which offers factory tours and a shop selling the fine fragrances that are handmade on the premises. (entrances not included).
Our coach takes us back to the hotel late afternoon, giving us time to relax before dinner this evening.
  • DAY 3 Winchcombe & Sudeley Castle
  • We're heading to Winchcombe today, an ancient town located in a valley, whose characterful streets are full of charm. Explore at your own pace or join our 5-mile walk which departs from Sudeley Castle and takes us onto the Gloucestershire Way footpath, which affords fantastic views over the town and the surrounding area.
After this we'll all head inside to explore at leisure. Sudeley Castle's royal connections stretch back over 1,000 years, and it's the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within its grounds. The last of Henry VIII's six wives, Katherine Parr, lived and died in the castle, and she now rests in a beautiful 15th century church located in the gardens. Fascinating treasures inside the castle include Katherine Parr's love letters, lacework said to have been made by Anne Boleyn and Charles I's beer mugs.
Back at the hotel, we'll gather again this evening to enjoy dinner.
  • DAY 4 Depart Stratford-Upon-Avon
  • Enjoy breakfast at leisure before checking out of the hotel and making your way back home.
