Itinerary

Description

Enjoy an enchanting short break to Somerset as we discover some of the county’s gems. We blend the Victorian seaside charm of Weston-super-Mare with the lovely town of Glastonbury and the cathedral city of Wells, as well as explore the natural wonder of the awe-inspiring Cheddar Gorge on a scenic drive though the spectacular Somerset countryside.

Coach Itinerary

Included Excursions
Glastonbury & Wells (full day)
We travel first to the ancient market town of Glastonbury. The town has a wealth of beautiful, historic buildings including the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey set in 36 acres of parkland (admission not included). It is also known for its bohemian culture, quirky shops and cafés.

We continue on to Wells, located at the foot of the Mendip Hills. England’s smallest city boasts a magnificent cathedral and unique moated Bishop’s Palace, which has been home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years, while the eclectic mix of buildings and narrow streets adds to the atmosphere here.

Cheddar village & scenic drive through Cheddar Gorge (half day)
On our half-day excursion, we head to Cheddar village, known as the origin of Cheddar cheese, which has been produced here since the 12th century. The village offers many tea rooms, gift shops and, of course, the Cheddar Cheese factory.

We then enjoy a scenic drive through the magnificent limestone Cheddar Gorge. Classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Britain's largest gorge has dramatic cliffs rising up 450ft and stunning stalactite caverns.

Optional Excursion
Bath – £12pp (full day)
Join us on an optional excursion to the beautiful city of Bath. The city has remained faithful to its Regency roots, with an abundance of elegant terraces, circuses and squares in a picturesque valley setting. The magnificent Royal Crescent is a must-see and the central square is home not only to Bath Abbey, but also the ancient Roman Baths. The city has an excellent selection of shops; especially along the Pulteney Bridge, one of only four bridges in the world to feature shops across its full span on both sides.
