Description

Discover the spectacular scenery and historic railways of North Wales on this relaxing short break! The endless panoramas of the Snowdonia National Park and charm of traditional seaside resorts will make for a memorable getaway. As well as two heritage rail journeys, enjoy time at leisure in the unique coastal village of Portmeirion and Llandudno, the ‘Queen of the Welsh Resorts’.

Coach Itinerary

Betws-y-Coed, Ffestiniog Railway & Portmeirion (full day)
Our first visit is to the picturesque village of Betws-y-Coed, known as the Gateway to Snowdonia National Park. The backdrop of coniferous forests has earned this area the name ‘Little Switzerland’.

We then travel to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau to catch the Ffestiniog Railway to the harbour town of Porthmadog. The train travels into the mountains through tranquil pastures, magnificent forests, lakes and waterfalls.

Afterwards we venture to the Italianate village of Portmeirion, designed and built by architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis after being inspired by visits to the Mediterranean. Its unique atmosphere has seen it featured on camera many times, most famously in the 1960s TV series, The Prisoner.

Llandudno & Welsh Highland Railway (full day)
We spend some time at leisure in the seaside resort of Llandudno, famed for its golden beach flanked by the Great and Little Ormes and its wonderful air of traditional Victorian charm.

In the afternoon we board the Welsh Highland Railway in Caernarfon and enjoy a picturesque journey to the small village of Rhyd Ddu, admiring the awe-inspiring scenery of the Snowdonia National Park on the way.
