Itinerary

Description

Vibrant, timeless and fun, Blackpool has remained one of the UK’s favourite seaside destinations since the 19th century. From our base here we journey into yesteryear on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway, travelling through the gorgeous scenery of the Ribble Valley towards Carlisle and visit the picturesque coastal town of Morecambe. With a chance to experience the natural beauty of the Lake District too, this trip perfectly combines traditional seaside resorts, nostalgic journeys and stunning countryside.

Coach Itinerary

Blackpool Breaks

Morecambe (full day)
We head to Morecambe, a coastal town renowned for its beautiful beach as well as being the hometown of comedy legend Eric Morecambe. Enjoy the beautiful views across Morecambe Bay, stroll along the promenade or perhaps you’d like to admire the TERN project, a series of award-winning sculptures situated along the seafront which celebrate the diverse range of  birds and other wildlife of Morecambe Bay. On this trail you can also see the statue of Eric Morecambe, which was opened by the Queen in 1999.

The Settle to Carlisle Railway (full day)
Today we enjoy a memorable journey on the world-famous Settle to Carlisle Railway. Arguably the most scenic line in the country, it took 6,000 men seven years to build. The line cuts a 72-mile swathe across the Yorkshire Dales, over the 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct, through the long tunnel at Blea Moor and on past the lush pastures of the Eden Valley before arriving in the historic city of Carlisle, where we enjoy some free time at leisure.

Optional Excursion

The Lake District (Kendal & Bowness-on-Windermere) – £12pp (full day)
We head into the Lake District for our full day optional excursion, stopping first at the town of Kendal, the southern gateway to the Lakes and home of the famous Kendal mint cake. We then head to Bowness-on-Windermere, a charming enclave on the banks of Lake Windermere. This bustling town offers lovely panoramic views of the lake plus plenty of craft and gift shops, lakeside cafés and quaint tea rooms.
