Itinerary

Description

Shropshire is one of England’s most rural counties with beautiful unspoilt countryside dotted with picturesque market towns. We take a trip on one of Britain’s best-loved heritage railways as it meanders through this picture postcard landscape and cross the border into Wales for a leisurely horse drawn cruise along the lovely Llangollen Canal.

Coach Itinerary

Severn Valley Railway & Worcester (full day)
We take a journey back in time on the Severn Valley Railway for a wonderful vintage train journey from the ancient riverside town of Bridgnorth to Kidderminster. The train meanders its way along the picturesque Severn Valley, through the Shropshire countryside and into Worcestershire, passing quaint towns and villages along the way.

After disembarkation, we head to the historic city of Worcester set on the banks of the River Severn. The town is known for its exquisite Royal Worcester porcelain and piquant Worcestershire sauce as well as a magnificent cathedral.

Llangollen Horse Drawn Canal Cruise & Much Wenlock (full day)
We head to the pretty market town of Llangollen and embark on a horse drawn boat cruise on the beautiful Llangollen Canal, now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, enjoying the tranquillity and picturesque vistas of the surrounding Welsh hills as the horse pulls the boat along at a leisurely pace.

After our cruise, we rejoin the coach and drive through the famous Horseshoe Pass, admiring the wonderful scenery, before making a short stop in the beautiful medieval market town of Much Wenlock, full of twisting streets, half-timbered buildings, traditional shops and the remains of a magnificent 12th-century Priory.

Optional Excursion
Ludlow & Shrewsbury - £10pp (full day)
On our optional excursion we travel first to the thriving medieval town of Ludlow, which boasts a magnificent ruined castle as its centrepiece. Described by Sir John Betjeman as ‘probably the loveliest town in England’, the streets are lined with medieval and Tudor style half-timbered and Georgian buildings.

We continue on through the Shropshire Hills to Shrewsbury, another of England's fine medieval market towns packed with timber-framed black and white buildings, a maze of narrow alleys and cobbled streets which are a delight to explore.
