Itinerary
Included Excursions
The Settle to Carlisle Railway (full day)
We travel to the wonderful town of Carlisle where we spend some free time to explore before enjoying a memorable journey on the world-famous Settle to Carlisle Railway. Arguably the most scenic line in the country, it took 6,000 men seven years to build. The line cuts a 72-mile swathe across the Yorkshire Dales and travels over the iconic 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct, the long tunnel at Blea Moor and the lush pastures of the Eden Valley.
Please note:the Settle to Carlisle Railway reserves the right to substitute the steam locomotive with an alternative diesel-powered locomotive without notice or refund.
Kendal & Lake Windermere Cruise (full day)
Our journey takes us to the Lake District where we discover the beauty of Lake Windermere on a scenic cruise filled with mountain scenery, secluded bays and many wooded islands as we cruise England’s largest lake. We disembark back in Bowness-on-Windermere where we enjoy free time in this bustling town with its craft and gift shops, lakeside cafés and tea rooms.
Then we continue on to the town of Kendal, the southern gateway to the Lakes and home of the famous Kendal mint cake.
Dales tour – Hawes, Grassington, Skipton (full day)
We enjoy a tour of the Dales, stopping first at the market town of Hawes, famous for the creamery that produces Wensleydale cheese. We continue on to the charming village of Grassington with its stunning surroundings, bustling cobbled square, beautiful stone buildings and quirky shops. Our final stop is the gateway to the Dales, Skipton, a historic town with a grand medieval castle at its centre.
