Situated on Yorkshire’s coast between two large bays, Scarborough styles itself as the country’s oldest seaside resort, with visitors enjoying the stunning scenery and fabulous beaches for nearly 400 years! As well as discovering some of the lovely towns scattered along the magnificent coastline, we also enjoy a delightful heritage journey on the spectacular North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taking us back to a golden era of quaint rural stations, wood-panelled carriages and a slower pace of life.

Scarborough Holidays With A Train Ride On North Yorkshire Moors Railway

North Yorkshire Moors Railway & Whitby (full day)
We begin our day with a nostalgic journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, travelling through miles of peaceful countryside from Pickering to Goathland. This village, better known as ‘Aidensfield’ on the TV series Heartbeat or ‘Hogsmeade’ station from the early Harry Potter films, is a lovely place to spend some time.

We continue on to the charming coastal town of Whitby, famed for its connection to Dracula, in which Bram Stoker describes it as a ‘lovely place’ and for its striking jet jewellery, popularised in Victorian times. Wander around the quirky streets and the busy harbour before tackling the climb up to the atmospheric ruined abbey perched on the cliffs above the town.

Beverley (half day)
For our half day excursion we head to the pretty market town of Beverley, one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets. The 13th-century Minster is well worth a visit, with its medieval stone carvings and stained glass. The town’s rich heritage is reflected in the historic buildings, cobbled streets and charming courtyards, and there are also quaint boutiques, cosmopolitan cafés and traditional pubs for you to enjoy.

Optional Excursion

York – £12pp (full day)
Our optional excursion takes us to the historic city of York. Make time for the glorious York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe with world-famous stained glass windows. Other highlights include the narrow cobbled streets of the ‘Shambles’ where the buildings date back to medieval times, the Jorvic Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage, and the ancient walls surrounding the city. The famous Betty’s tea rooms are also worth a visit.
