Join us for a breakaway to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives to fight for our freedom. We discover the incredible story of the 617 Squadron, nicknamed The Dambusters, who used a peaceful reservoir in the Peak District to practise for their dangerous raid on German dams in 1943. We round off our two-day break with an uplifting Salute to the 1940sevening starring tributes to George Formby, Gracie Fields, Frank Sinatra, Lofty and Sergeant Major from It Ain't Half Hot Mum, plus the UK's No.1 Vera Lynn tribute, Lorrie Brown (who was endorsed by the late Dame Vera Lynn herself)!
Coach Itinerary
Sunday: From a morning pickup in your local area, we travel by coach to Buxton, a gorgeous spa town nestled on the edge of the Peak District National Park. We have some time at leisure before checking in to the Palace Hotel, where later, we enjoy an entertainingSalute to the 1940s tributeevening.
Monday: Today we head to Ladybower Reservoir, situated in the Upper Derwent Valley in the spectacular Peak District National Park. This is where The Dambusters used 'bouncing bombs' to practise for Operation Chastise, their epic 1943 raid on the dams of the German Ruhr and one of the most famous air raids of the Second World War.
We then continue to Bakewell, set on the banks of the River Wye, to enjoy some free time. Famous for its Bakewell Pudding, the town boasts an ancient five-arched bridge, riverside walks, independent shops and lovely cafés. We rejoin the coach in the afternoon for our journey home.
