Itinerary

Description

We combine some of the historic gems of Norfolk with the largest Christmas theatre show in the country. The Thursford Christmas Spectacular is set in the magical surroundings of a lavishly decorated auditorium with thousands of twinkling lights, Christmas trees and festive decorations; a Christmas musical extravaganza of non-stop singing, dancing, dazzling costumes, music, humour and variety from a cast of over 130 performers.

Self Drive

Excursion One – Walsingham & Thursford Christmas Spectacular

We head to the historic village of Walsingham, famed for its religious shrines and a major pilgrimage centre since medieval times. The village also boasts a stunning collection of rare, medieval half-timbered buildings, Georgian facades and a Russian Orthodox church.

Afterwards, we travel to Thursford for the matinee* performance of the Thursford Christmas Spectacular. Before the show, we have time to discover the ‘olde worlde’ village of shops, selling everything from Christmas decorations, gifts and crafts to fashion and accessories. We then take our seats at our festively decorated tables for this spectacular musical extravaganza, a veritable celebration of the festive season with an eclectic fusion of traditional carols and chart-topping favourites by a cast of over 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians.

*On the tour departing 7th December 2018, the Thursford Spectacular will be an evening performance. The itinerary will vary accordingly and lunch will replace dinner.

Excursion Two – Felbrigg Estate, Norwich & Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery

We start the day at Felbrigg Estate, a tranquil and relaxing sanctuary. The renowned ancient woodland shields the estate from the north winds and here you can enjoy stunning views across the Norfolk landscape. The Service Wing, shop and Squire’s Pantry cafe will be open during your visit.

We continue on to Norwich. One of the most complete medieval cities in the country, Norwich is steeped in history and atmosphere, with winding lanes lined with period buildings. Here we visit one of the city’s most famous landmarks – Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery. Built by the Normans as a Royal Palace 900 years ago, this impressive building is now a museum and gallery boasting some fascinating collections of fine art, archaeology and natural history.

En-route visit – Blickling Hall

We check out of our hotel and en-route home, we visit Blickling Hall, one of our finest Jacobean houses set at the heart of a magnificent garden and historic park. In decorative terms it’s a wonderful house to explore because of its plasterwork and superb Long Gallery. However, there’s little doubt that Blickling’s Boleyn connections (not least tales of Anne Boleyn’s headless ghost) add hugely to the atmosphere here.

Please note: those travelling by car have the option to meet us at Blickling Hall. For passengers travelling by coach, coach travel to Blickling Hall will be included on the return journey home.
