Itinerary

Description

North Devon is known for its golden, sandy beaches and stunning coastline, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From traditional seaside resorts to horse-drawn canal barges, this lovely region is a nostalgic nod to holidays gone by.

Coach Itinerary

RHS Rosemoor & Bideford (full day)

Beautiful RHS Garden Rosemoor, spanning 65 acres set in the Torridge Valley, is a unique place to explore. Visit the Rose Garden, the Fruit & Vegetable Garden and the Exotic Garden, plus many more, all showcasing some brilliant floral displays. We’ll then enjoy some free time in Bideford. Situated on the west bank of the River Torridge, this historic town offers delightful lanes with quirky shops, cafés and restaurants to explore, or perhaps you’d like to take a stroll along the quay.

Tiverton & horse-drawn barge trip on the Grand Western Canal (full day)

We head to Tiverton, with time to explore before our memorable boat trip. One of the last of its kind, the Tivertonian is a traditional horse-drawn barge on the Grand Western Canal. We travel for an hour to East Manley, where there’s a chance to stretch our legs and admire Brunel’s aqueduct while the horse has a well-earned rest, before returning to Tiverton. During our journey, we listen to tales, anecdotes and historical facts about the horse-drawn barge and the Grand Western Canal.

Optional Excursion

Barnstaple, Woolacombe & Ilfracombe – £11pp (full day)

Join our optional excursion that takes us first to the capital of north Devon, Barnstaple. The town features many fine buildings and attractive streets and alleys and is also home to the historic Barnstaple Pannier Market which offers a range of produce, arts and crafts, antiques and collectables.

Afterwards we head to the seaside, stopping first in Woolacombe, famed for its three miles of golden sands and regularly recognised as one of the top ten beaches in the world. Next is Ilfracombe, an important holiday town during the Victorian era and home to stunning beaches and the largest harbour on the north Devon coast.
