Itinerary

Description

As you gaze from the rail of Columbus you’ll be stunned by the sheer scale and magnificence of Norway’s mighty fjords. This multi-generational cruise will introduce you to breathtaking views of cascading waterfalls, sheer grey cliffs and majestic mountains. In contrast you will be able to visit pretty fjord villages set among green fields and Bergen, the fjord capital, with its busy harbour and historic Hanseatic buildings.

Cruise Itinerary

Day 1 – Home pickup & embarkation in London Tilbury
A uniformed chauffeur will collect you from home for your comfortable journey in a top specification car so you can begin your holiday in style. On arrival at London Tilbury Cruise Terminal, we board the Columbus and begin our journey, taking time to relax in our cabins or on deck and enjoying the use of the ship’s range of leisure facilities.

Day 2 – Rotterdam, Netherlands
We cruise into Rotterdam where we have time to discover this diverse city with its absorbing maritime tradition and patchwork of architectural styles. Admire the sparkling skyscrapers and impressive port or visit the fascinating food markets.

Day 3 – At Sea / Day 4 – Cruising Hardangerfjord & Eidfjord, Norway
After a day at leisure on the ship, we cruise along the beautiful Hardangerfjord, the fourth longest fjord in the world. With steep mountain slopes meeting the water’s shores, we take in the impressive vistas before arriving in Eidfjord, lying at the end of a tributary of the Hardangerfjord and surrounded by mountains up to 1,900 metres high. The small town is the gateway to Hardangervidda, the largest high mountain plateau in Europe and Norway’s largest national park. A short walk from the village centre there are graves by the roadside dating back to the Iron Age and Viking eras. The ‘old’ church in Eidfjord was built in 1309. Nearby, the stunning Vøringfossen waterfall is one of Norway’s most popular natural attractions and features in optional excursions along with the amazing Sysen Dam.

Day 5 –Bergen, Norway
Our next destination is Bergen, known as the ‘Gateway to the Fjords’. It is Norway’s second largest city yet, with a population of less than a quarter of a million, it has the feel of a small town. The city is beautifully sited against a backdrop of seven mountains and the funicular ride to the summit of Mount Fløien affords wonderful panoramic views of Bergen and Norway’s attractive coastline. Overlooking the harbour the colourful Bryggen wharf is the face of Bergen. The characteristic wooden gabled buildings were once the home and offices of Hanseatic merchants but today house shops selling crafts and traditional souvenirs.

Day 6 – Stavanger, Norway
Stavanger is today the ‘Oil Capital of Norway’. It is a vibrant, modern city with Gamle Stavanger at its core. The picturesque old part of Stavanger has gently sloping cobbled streets lined with small, white wooden houses built at the end of the 18th and early 19th centuries. The city’s Anglo-Norman style cathedral was built in 1125, the same year Stavanger was officially founded. One of the most popular excursions from Norway’s fourth largest city is a visit to the Iron Age Farm at Ullanhaug giving a fascinating insight into life in the area some 1,500 years ago.

Day 7 – At Sea / Day 8 – Disembarkation in London Tilbury
After a day at leisure on the ship, we arrive back in London Tilbury where we disembark and are met by our chauffeur for the journey home – a luxurious and stress-free way to end your holiday.
