Itinerary

Description

Treat yourself to a fun and entertaining break away to the Isle of Wight! A firm favourite of Queen Victoria in the 19th century, this charming island is one of the UK’s most popular destinations with elegant resort towns, miles of unspoilt coastline and an idyllic interior of thatched cottages and quaint hamlets. As well as exploring, we also have plenty of time to relax and enjoy some great food, a happy hour and fantastic entertainment at our hotel!

Relax At The Isle Of Wight This Festive Period

Newport & Ryde (half day)
We head first to the bustling capital of the island, Newport. Here we can explore the historic quayside or browse the selection of speciality shops. Afterwards, we visit the seaside resort of Ryde with its long stretch of golden sand and pretty esplanade. Take a stroll along the famous pier, the oldest in England, or admire the boats moored in the town’s harbour.

Optional Excursion
Cowes, Yarmouth & Ventnor – £11pp (full day)
Our optional excursion takes us first to Cowes, home to the world-famous regatta. Many of the town’s ornate buildings date from Queen Victoria’s time, in the style popularised by her consort Prince Albert.  Next is the historic port town of Yarmouth which contains some of the oldest architecture on the island including a 16th-century castle. Finally we visit Ventnor, a pretty resort built on a series of terraces.

Accommodation

Selected Hotel

We’ll stay at one of two well-appointed hotels on the island. Both hotels offer en-suite rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities as well as a pleasant bar and restaurant.

The friendly, family-run Holliers Hotel is a 17th-century coaching inn situated in the heart of the picturesque Old Village of Shanklin. Hotel facilities include an indoor heated pool, sauna and Jacuzzi. Dinners are carvery style.

The family-run Medehamstede Hotel is situated in the coastal town of Shanklin set within spacious, well-kept gardens. A Victorian building with plenty of character, the comfortable rooms feature Freeview TV.

Please note: The Holliers Hotel has no lift or ground floor rooms and is therefore unsuitable for those with limited mobility. The Medehamstede has no lift but has some ground floor rooms (with a few steps to navigate).
