Itinerary

Description

Join us to explore the scenic Yorkshire countryside, where we take a trip on the heritage Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, travelling through a breathtaking scenery of heather and windswept moors; the very landscape which fuelled the imagination of the Brontë sisters. This spectacular railway has also become synonymous with the iconic 1970s film The Railway Children. With 2020 celebrating the 50th anniversary of this special film, this is the perfect time to enjoy a nostalgic journey on this enchanting railway. With visits to charming villages and towns as well as RHS Harlow Carr and a leisurely cruise on the River Ouse, this break offers a wonderful celebration of Yorkshire.

Coach Itinerary

Keighley & Worth Valley Railway & Haworth (full day)
We head to the quaint village of Oxenhope where we board our train for a spectacular round-trip journey on the heritage Keighley & Worth Valley Railway through beautiful Brontë country. Enjoy the rolling scenery of windswept heather and rugged moors, and imagine the Brontë sisters and their celebrated heroines wandering through the enchanting, dramatic landscapes. The railway was used as a location for the iconic 1970s film The Railway Children as well as many other films and TV series, and it is easy to see why.

Afterwards, we visit the pretty hilltop village of Haworth, where the Brontë sisters spent much of their short but fruitful lives. The village, with its historic cobbled main street, offers tea rooms, craft and gift shops, restaurants and pubs while the Brontë’s former home, Haworth Parsonage, is now a world-famous museum and is where the sisters wrote most of their famous novels.

Harrogate & RHS Harlow Carr (full day)
Our day begins in the elegant Victorian spa town of Harrogate. Notable sights include the Royal Pump Room and the attractive Montpellier Quarter with its pedestrianised streets lined with 19th-century buildings that are now home to galleries, boutiques and cafés.

We then continue on to RHS Garden Harlow Carr, which presents an intriguing mix of innovative planting styles and design and is a relaxing place of water, woodland, wildflower meadows and stone that blends into the surrounding Yorkshire landscape. A delight to visit in any season, there is also a Kitchen Garden featuring a range of fruit, vegetables and herbs, and a brand new hedgehog friendly garden!

York including Cruise on the River Ouse (full day)
We visit the historic city of York. Make time for the glorious York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe with world-famous stained glass windows. Other highlights include the picturesque warren of medieval lanes known as the ‘Shambles’, the Jorvic Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage, and the ancient walls surrounding the city. The famous Betty’s tea rooms are also worth a visit, where traditional Afternoon Tea is served all day. We’ll also enjoy a relaxing cruise along the picturesque River Ouse, where we can view the city from a different perspective.
