Itinerary

Description

We head into the heart of the beautiful and inspiring Yorkshire countryside, immortalised by the Brontë sisters, with a trip on the heritage Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, travelling through a breathtaking landscape of heather and windswept moors on a railway that has become synonymous with the iconic 1970s film The Railway Children. We also visit the lovely city of York with its wealth of culture and history.

Coach Itinerary

Keighley & Worth Valley Railway & Haworth (full day)
We head to the village of Oxenhope where we board our train for a round-trip journey on the heritage Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, through beautiful Brontë country. The railway was used as a location for the iconic 1970s film The Railway Children as well as many other films and TV series and the journey takes in an enchanting windswept landscape of heather and wild, rugged moors.

Afterwards, we visit the pretty hilltop village of Haworth, where the Brontë sisters spent much of their lives. The village, with its historic cobbled main street, offers tea rooms, craft and gift shops, restaurants and pubs while the Brontë’s former home, Haworth Parsonage, is now a museum.

York (full day)
We visit the historic city of York. Make time for the glorious York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe with world-famous stained glass windows. Other highlights include the picturesque warren of medieval lanes known as the ‘Shambles’, the Jorvic Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage, and the ancient walls surrounding the city. The famous Betty’s tea rooms are also worth a visit.

Optional Excursion
Knaresborough & Harrogate - £10pp (full day)
Our optional excursion takes us first to the picturesque market town of Knaresborough, built in the gorge of the River Nidd, with its warren of cobbled streets, iconic viaduct and ruins of Knaresborough Castle towering above the town.

We travel on to the elegant spa town of Harrogate, where notable sights include the Royal Pump Room and the attractive Montpellier Quarter with its pedestrianised streets lined with 19th-century buildings that are now home to galleries, boutiques and cafés.
