Itinerary

Description

Escape to Yorkshire on our idyllic short break! We take in the highlights of the stunning county, including the lovely city of York, famous for its historic sights and quaint tea rooms, as well as the heritage North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Climb on board in the charming village of Goathland, then sit back and relax as we weave our way through the spectacular North Yorkshire Moors National Park with its heather-clad moorland and unique wildlife. Our nostalgic journey ends at the delightful 1930s-themed Pickering station, guaranteed to transport you back to the golden age of steam!

Itinerary

Day 1
From a morning pickup in your local area we travel by coach to our hotel, arriving in time for dinner and the first of two nights’ stay.

Day 2
Today we visit the historic city of York. Make time for the glorious York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe with world-famous stained glass windows. Other highlights include the narrow cobbled streets of the ‘Shambles’ where the buildings date back to medieval times, the Jorvik Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage, and the ancient walls surrounding the city. The famous Betty’s tea rooms are also worth a visit after all that exploring! Later we return to the hotel for dinner and our second night’s stay.

Day 3
We begin our day with some free time in Goathland, which played the role of 'Hogsmeade' station in the early Harry Potter films, and better known as ‘Aidensfield’ on the TV series Heartbeat. Next, we head to the town’s heritage station to board our train for a nostalgic journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, travelling through stunning scenery to Pickering. This bustling market town is set at the edge of the majestic North York Moors, where there are plenty of shops, cafés and tea rooms to enjoy. We rejoin the coach in the afternoon for the journey home.

JG3

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a more formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, with a greater range of facilities and services. Bedrooms are a little more spacious and have additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, a bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or with waiter service.
