Itinerary
Description
Follow in the footsteps of royalty and step aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia on this lovely short break. Crowned the UK’s best attraction by Which? Magazine in 2020, this magnificent vessel served as Her Majesty The Queen’s floating palace for over 44 years and is now berthed in Edinburgh. Uncover its rich history across the five decks, explore the setting for Prince William and Prince Harry’s summer holidays and imagine where world leaders and celebrities were once entertained! We also have time to discover the Scottish capital’s other delights, from the imposing Edinburgh Castle and picturesque Old Town to the fantastic shops that line the famous Princes Street.
CoachItinerary
Day 1
From a morning pickup in your local area we travel by coach to our hotel, arriving in time for dinner and the first of two nights’ stay.
Day 2
Today we head to Edinburgh and step aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Queen's former floating Royal residence, used not only for state visits and official receptions but also for family holidays. Highlights of the five different decks include the Bridge, the State Apartments, Royal Bedrooms, Crew's Quarters and the Engine Room. Look out for the clocks too, all stopped at 3:01pm – the exact time The Queen stepped off the vessel for the final time in the decommissioning ceremony.
We then enjoy time at leisure in Edinburgh, dominated by the iconic castle perched high above Scotland’s vibrant capital city. From the picturesque sights of the old town, the sprawl of attractions on the Royal Mile and the grandeur of George Street, with its many boutique shops, cafés and restaurants, there’s a wealth of things to do. Later we return to the hotel for dinner and our second night’s stay.
Day 3
After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and head to Gretna Green, famous as the 18th-century destination for runaway couples. No visit is complete here without discovering the historic Blacksmiths Shop and touching the anvil for good luck in love! You can also pick up some lovely gifts in the charming shops or enjoy a taste of Scotland at the Blacksmiths Foodcourt. We rejoin the coach in the afternoon for the journey home.
