Itinerary

Description

Attracting holidaymakers since Victorian times, Eastbourne is a bustling seaside resort that epitomises the British summer holiday with its traditional seafront attractions. During our break here, we take a trip on one of the country’s best-loved nostalgic heritage railways as well as discover the rich heritage of 1066 Country.

Coach Itinerary

Bluebell Railway & Lewes (full day)
We start with a trip into yesteryear by boarding the Bluebell Railway, one of the UK’s best-preserved heritage railways. From Sheffield Park station we journey through the idyllic Sussex countryside toward Kingscote.

Afterwards, we explore the bustling market town of Lewes, surrounded by chalk cliffs in the South Downs. There are many historic buildings to admire including the Norman castle which dominates the townscape.

1066 Country: Rye, Battle & Hastings (full day)
We explore 1066 Country, calling first at the fortified hilltop town of Rye, a charming place of cobbled lanes, secret passages and historic buildings. We then head to Battle, the scene of William the Conqueror’s famous victory, before finishing in the coastal town of Hastings, which boasts the remains of the first castle in England to be built by William the Conqueror and a lovely preserved Old Town with half-timbered houses and narrow streets.

Optional Excursion
Brighton, Beachy Head & the Sussex Heritage Coast - £10pp (full day)
On our optional excursion, we head first to Brighton, with its beachfront chic and iconic tourist attractions such as the Royal Pavilion with its exotic oriental architecture. Enjoy a stroll along the promenade, head to the ‘Lanes’ area, crammed with interesting boutiques or take a trip on Brighton’s i360, the world’s tallest moving observation tower (entrance not included). Afterwards, we enjoy a scenic drive along the Sussex Heritage Coast, stopping to admire the spectacular chalk cliffs at Beachy Head.
