Durham, Holy Island & Beamish
Tour InfoA historic city, an open-air museum and a mysterious island crouching across a causeway that’s regularly cut off from the rest of the world during high tide...this short break offers a delightful few days to discover everything that makes stunning Northumberland truly special! Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Durham, delve into the history of Holy Island, enjoy a walk on Bamburgh's magnificent sands and journey back in time at the award-winning Beamish Living Museum: there's plenty to look forward to.
Durham, Holy Island & Beamish
IncludedOur full-day tour begins with a visit to the historic Holy Island of Lindisfarne, lying just off the Northumberland coast and accessible only twice daily at low tide. This beautifully unspoilt island, where Christianity first took hold in Britain, offers a serene atmosphere, rich history and remarkable wildlife, along with the striking 16th-century Lindisfarne Castle perched above the shoreline.
Later, we continue to the charming coastal village of Bamburgh, known for its dramatic setting and sweeping sea views. Explore its historic church, enjoy the peaceful walking trails or simply take in the sight of its iconic castle rising above white sandy beaches with views stretching out to the Farne Islands.
Durham, Holy Island & Beamish
IncludedThe fascinating and ever-popular living museum of Beamish gives us the opportunity to discover the amazing industrial heritage in the North of England. From the 1940s farm to the early 20th-century Pit Village, we take a step back in time as we meet costumed characters and catch a tram through The Town; a typical market town from the years leading up to the First World War.
