Spend Christmas In Austria And New Year In Lake Garda This Year

22nd December
Ferry to Calais and overnight stay in France.

23rd December
Continue on to our hotel in the Austrian Tyrol where we spend the next five nights.

Christmas Eve – Innsbruck
We travel to the elegant Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck, a beautiful Alpine city with breathtaking scenery and snow-capped mountains. There is plenty to see around the city including the winding streets of the picturesque Old Town, the Imperial Palace and the famous Golden Roof, built in the early 15th century for Emperor Maximilian I.

On our return to the hotel in the afternoon, we enjoy Austrian Christmas cookies and mulled wine followed by a traditional Austrian Christmas dinner in the evening.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day is a lovely day of leisure and celebration at our hotel, with a traditional turkey dinner included.

Boxing Day – Rattenberg & horse-drawn sleigh ride
Boxing Day sees us in Rattenberg, Austria’s smallest town. Built in the shadow of Rat Mountain, the town is known for its glass making and abundance of crystal glass shops. Later, we get into the spirit of Austrian life with a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the countryside.

27th December – Optional excursion to Salzburg (£20pp)
Join our optional excursion to the enchanting city of Salzburg. Birthplace of Mozart and filming location of The Sound of Music, the city has a rich heritage and a beautifully-preserved Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) overlooked by the medieval Hohensalzburg Fortress.

28th December – Garda via Vipiteno
Leaving Austria we travel to Italy, stopping en-route in the charming Alpine town of Vipiteno. We continue on to our hotel close to the shores of Lake Garda, our base for the next six nights.

29th December – Scenic tour around Lake Garda
We enjoy a scenic tour around Lake Garda, with its shores fringed by elegant period villas, lakeside resorts and historic towns plus olive and lemon groves stretching out towards the foothills of snow-capped mountains.

30th December – Optional excursion to Venice (£42pp)
Join us for an optional excursion to explore Venice. This unique and enchanting city is made up of waterways, bridges and wonderful piazzas. Famous sights include St Mark’s Square, the Bridge of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace and of course the gondolas that ply their trade up and down the canals.

New Year’s Eve – Verona
We spend a few hours in Verona, one of Italy’s oldest cities. As well as palaces, squares and bridges, its most famous monument is a spectacular Roman amphitheatre. Another popular attraction is Juliet’s House, supposedly the location of the famous balcony love scene from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

We return to our hotel in time to prepare for our gala evening that sees us bring in the New Year in style, complete with wine and live music plus a glass of Spumante when the clock strikes midnight.

New Year’s Day
After our fantastic New Year’s celebrations, we have time to relax and enjoy the spectacular beauty of Lake Garda at leisure.

2nd January – Sirmione
We head to Sirmione, set on a picturesque peninsula on the southern shore of Lake Garda. The town is beautifully-preserved with a turreted 13th-century castle and Roman ruins. Explore the historic centre with its maze of narrow, cobbled streets full of shops and cafés and plenty of scenic views of the lake.

3rd January
Travel to our overnight hotel in France, with a light evening meal included.

4th January
Continue on to Calais for our return ferry home.
