Look forward to this fabulous Christmas and New Year cruise voyaging south to the warmer climes of the ever popular Canary Islands and beautiful Madeira, for the New Year firework spectacular. Four contrasting islands are included in this delightful itinerary, offering a variety of picturesque landscapes and new experiences to savour. Sit back and relax, enjoy the delicious cuisine and let the attentive crew take care of you.

Day 1 – Home pickup & embarkation in Bristol Avonmouth
A uniformed chauffeur will collect you from home for your comfortable journey in a top specification car so you can begin your holiday in style. On arrival at Bristol Avonmouth Cruise Terminal, we board the Marco Polo and begin our journey, taking time to relax in our cabins or on deck and enjoying the use of the ship’s range of leisure facilities.

Day 2 – Cobh (for Cork), Ireland
We arrive in Cobh. Lying at the mouth of the River Lee, Cobh has one of the best natural harbours in the world. Known as Queenstown until 1922, it was the departure point for thousands of Irish emigrants to America and the last port of call of the Titanic. The ‘Queenstown Story’ is a wonderful exhibition telling of this rich maritime history. From Cobh’s waterfront, streets lined with brightly coloured houses climb the steep slope of a hill, which is crowned with the imposing St Coleman’s Cathedral. A charming little town, Cobh is a gateway to the city of Cork and excursions to Ireland’s legendary Blarney Castle.

Days 3 & 4 – At Sea

Day 5 – Lisbon, Portugal
After two days at leisure on board, we moor up in Lisbon. Portugal’s capital city is home to the magnificent Jeronimos Monastery, Belem Tower, 25th April Bridge and Monument of the Discoveries. Wander through the maze of narrow streets in the delightful Alfama district and ride one of the famous old trams.

Day 6 – Christmas Day at Sea

Day 7 – Funchal, Madeira
Our destination today is Funchal. Set in a magnificent natural amphitheatre overlooking a wide bay, Funchal is the delightful capital of the beautiful and dramatic island of Madeira. The harbour is right in the centre of town and as you approach, the sight of whitewashed buildings with red tiled roofs tumbling down the verdant mountain is spectacular. A modern cable car soars above the bustling city to Monte, which is the start of Madeira’s famous wicker toboggan ride. Wicker baskets, embroidery and the famous Madeira wine are popular souvenirs from the striking island often described as the ‘floating garden of the Atlantic’.

Day 8 – Santa Cruz de la Palma, La Palma
We arrive in Santa Cruz de la Palma, capital of the island of La Palma. Situated on the east coast, it is one of the prettiest towns in the Canary Islands, flanked by beautiful, fertile green hills. Wander the historic cobbled streets lined with colourful buildings and balconies decorated with flowers or stroll along the kilometre-long promenade by the beach. There are many churches and museums to explore while almond cakes, fine embroidery, cheeses, local jewellery and cigars are just some of the gifts you’ll find while browsing the shops here.

Day 9 – Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife
The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is dominated by Mount Teide in the central mountain range and several spectacular valleys covered with lush landscapes, banana plantations and pinewoods. We moor up in Santa Cruz, the island's capital, which offers a number of museums and churches to explore together with tempting shops and restaurants. The exotic gardens of Garcia Sanabria Park are worth a visit as is Loro Parque, with its tropical gardens, collection of parrots, and an aquarium with sharks, sea lions and penguins.

Day 10 – Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
We cruise into Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria. With its sub-tropical climate, coastal valleys, beautiful sandy beaches and mountainous peaks, Gran Canaria is a firm favourite with visitors from all over Europe. Head to the historic centre of Vegueta, steeped in traditional architecture and historical buildings which have been standing for over 500 years.

Day 11 – Arrecife, Lanzarote
Our next port of call is Arrecife. A city with maritime roots, Arrecife first appeared on maps in the 15th century as a small fishing harbour. Since 1852 it has been the capital of Lanzarote, the northernmost and fourth largest of Spain’s Canary Islands. Lanzarote, which lies just four degrees north of the Tropic of Cancer and enjoys a sub-tropical climate, is volcanic in origin. Arrecife’s Calle Leon y Castila has a wealth of shops and is an opportunity for duty free shopping.

Day 12 – New Year’s Eve at Sea / Day 13 – Gibraltar, Spain
After a day at sea, we moor up in Gibraltar, the famously contested and renowned headland in the Mediterranean Sea. In ancient times known as the Pillars of Hercules with its African counterpart, Mt Abyla, the Rock has remained under British rule for the last 300 years, despite being connected to Spain.

A towering 1400-ft outcrop that separates the Mediterranean from the Atlantic, Gibraltar was named Jebel al-Tarik by the Moorish General Tarik who landed there in 711 AD. See the famous Barbary apes that occupy the island as well as St Michael’s Cave and the Siege Tunnels or admire the view to Africa from a cable car.

Day 14 – At Sea / Day 15 – La Coruña (for Santiago de Compostela), Spain
After a day at leisure on board, we arrive in our final destination, La Coruña. A charming mix of both modern city and old town, La Coruña is capital of the Spanish province bearing the same name in the rugged and beautiful region of Galicia. The symbol of La Coruña, nicknamed the ‘Crystal City’ for the glass-fronted buildings along its attractive seafront promenade, is the 2nd-century lighthouse Torre del Hercules. Beautiful old streets and squares are found in Ciudad Vieja. The heart of this old town is the colonnaded Maria Pita Square surrounded by delightful shops, cafés and restaurants.

Day 16 – At Sea / Day 17 – Disembarkation in Bristol Avonmouth
After a day at leisure on the ship, we arrive back in Bristol Avonmouth where we disembark and are met by our chauffeur for the journey home – a luxurious and stress-free way to end your holiday.
