Plan My Trip

Escape to sunnier climes for a magical and memorable festive season on this very special cruise. Enjoy Christmas with all the trimmings on board Black Watch and a festive fiesta in southern Spain, see out 2020 in the gorgeous Canaries, and celebrate the arrival of the New Year in style in Madeira, all before starting 2021 with visits to two attraction-packed Portuguese cities.

Day 1 – Home pickup & embarkation in Liverpool / Days 2-4 – At Sea
A uniformed chauffeur will collect you from home for your comfortable journey in a top specification car so you can begin your holiday in style. On arrival at Liverpool Cruise Terminal, we board the Black Watch and begin our journey, taking time to relax in our cabins or on deck and enjoying the Christmas festivities plus the ship’s range of leisure facilities.

Day 5 – Cádiz, Spain
We spend Boxing Day in Cádiz, one of Europe’s most ancient cities located on Andalusia’s sunlit coast. Cádiz's fascinating Old Town district features huge stone walls from the 1500s and is home to a wealth of historic highlights, including the beautifully crafted 18th-century Cádiz Cathedral. Boasting over 100 watchtowers, including the iconic Torre Tavira, traditionally used for spotting ships; traditional tapas bars serving delicious traditional cuisine and local seafood; and fascinating maritime history; Cádiz offers a plethora of authentic sights and experiences to the sounds of upbeat alegrías (flamenco songs).

Day 6 – At Sea / Day 7 – Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura, Canaries
After a day at sea, we moor up in picturesque Puerto del Rosario in the eastern part of Fuerteventura. Strolling around the streets is a great way of finding interesting shops, or discovering family-owned bars serving tapas, local wines and Canarian cuisine.

Home to over 150 beautiful beaches, Fuerteventura is a popular holiday destination. The Canaries second largest island has a glorious climate, boasting almost year-round sunshine and warmth. A volcanic island, Fuerteventura has stunning natural landscapes that beg to be explored, as well as crystal clear waters.

Day 8 – Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain
Today we cruise to Las Palmas, one of the Canary Island’s most popular destinations thanks to its year-round climate and golden-sand beaches. Founded over 500 years ago, the city has a feel of mainland Spain, spiced up with an eclectic mix of Asian and African cultures. Vegueta, the oldest quarter, is both atmospheric and fashionable, with extensive historical architecture plus a fine selection of boutiques and smart bars. At its centre stand the twin towers of Santa Ana Cathedral; started in 1500 but still unfinished, the cathedral has a unique mix of Renaissance, Gothic and Neoclassical styles in its construction.

Day 9 – Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain
We step ashore in Santa Cruz, Tenerife’s capital. Built around boulevards and wide avenues that link elegant squares and parks, well-preserved buildings feature in the old town, including the colonial Church of the Immaculate Conception and the 18th-century Palacio de Carta, which has impressive Baroque and neoclassical features. Recently redesigned by the architects Herzog & de Meuron, the city’s largest square, Plaza de España, is a pleasant spot to lose a few hours. Lively beaches such as Playa de Las Americas are within easy reach of Santa Cruz too.

Day 10 – Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
We spend the last day of 2020 in Funchal, the capital of Portugal’s Madeiran archipelago. The city has a timeless old-world charm and is enhanced by a subtropical climate that fills this ‘floating garden’ with the year-round colours and perfumes of flowers and fruit. Backed by rolling hills, the town is famous for its harbour, the 17th-century São Tiago Fortress (now the Contemporary Art Museum) and world renowned Madeiran wine cellars. The ancient Funchal Cathedral is also worth a visit, a mix of Gothic and Romanesque architecture and noted for its impressive carved wooden ceiling.

Day 11 – At Sea / Day 12 – Lisbon, Portugal
After a day at sea, we arrive in Portugal’s coastal capital of Lisbon, stretched across its seven trademark hills. The city is a cinematic collection of cobbled alleyways, pastel-coloured buildings, ancient ruins and white-domed cathedrals. Lisbon’s many fascinating museums include the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Coach Museum and the Carmo Archaeological Museum. Lisbon is also a shopper’s paradise, with the Centro Commercial Colombo – the biggest shopping mall on the Iberian peninsula. Alternatively, there are bargains to be had in the local flea market, Campo de Santa Clara, and don’t miss the chance to sample iconic egg tarts at Pasteis de Belém too.

Day 13 – Leixoes (for Oporto, Portugal)
We moor up in Leixões. A short journey from here takes us into the heart of Oporto, with its fortress-like Cathedral, the Baroque Church of Clérigos and pastel-fronted houses with red-tiled roofs. Head to the historic Ribeira District, where the narrow, cobbled lanes wind their way down to the Douro River. Don’t forget to visit one of the many wine cellars for a taste of the tipple named after the city, Port.

Days 14 & 15 – At Sea / Day 16 – Disembarkation in Liverpool
After a couple of days at leisure on the ship, we arrive back in Liverpool where we disembark and are met by our chauffeur for the journey home – a luxurious and stress-free way to end the holiday.
