Plan My Trip

The bustling resort of Bournemouth is home to seven miles of golden sands and a historic pier, offering a traditional and friendly seaside ambience. From our base here, we explore neighbouring Poole with its nautical atmosphere and the glorious gardens at Exbury, where we experience the sights and sounds of a narrow gauge steam railway. We also discover the fascinating and heart-warming story of the rescue and rehabilitation of primates at the Monkey World sanctuary to complete a lovely few days away.

Coach Itinerary

Monkey World, Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway

Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway (full day)
We spend the day at Exbury Gardens. Nestled in the New Forest National Park beside the Beaulieu River, the gardens were the inspiration of Lionel Nathan de Rothschild who created one of the finest woodland gardens in the country. Covering a spectacular 200 acre site, the gardens are home to the world-famous Rothschild Collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and rare trees and shrubs. We have time to explore the myriad pathways, woods, parkland and ponds as well as enjoy a relaxing 20 minute trip aboard the 12 ¼ inch gauge Steam Railway. We meander through the ‘Summer Lane’ Garden before journeying past the extensive Rock Garden and looking out for wildlife as we circle the Dragonfly Pond.

Monkey World & Poole (full day)
We enjoy a fascinating start to the day at Monkey World, an ape rescue centre that provides sanctuary to over 250 rescued and endangered primates from around the world. The 65 acre park is home to the stars of TV’s Monkey Life and Monkey Business who have been rehabilitated into natural living groups. Here we have a chance to watch a wide range of species of monkeys and apes interact for an experience to remember.

Afterwards, we head to Poole, a bustling resort with a lively quayside, stunning natural harbour and some of the finest beaches in England. It also boasts two Victorian parks, one of which, Poole Park, is a designated Conservation Area and a historic Old Town which still shows evidence of its medieval past.

Optional Excursion

Dorchester Market & Weymouth – £12pp (full day)
Join us on an optional excursion which takes us first to the charming county town of Dorchester, where we have time to browse the stalls of its traditional market. We continue to Weymouth, with its bustling harbour and fine Georgian seafront. The resort boasts a long sandy beach and fantastic views across the bay taking in the World Heritage Jurassic coastline.
