Itinerary

Description

The bustling resort of Bournemouth is home to seven miles of golden sands and a historic pier. From our base here, we explore neighbouring Poole with its nautical atmosphere and the glorious gardens at Exbury. We also discover the fascinating and heart-warming story of the rescue and rehabilitation of primates at the Monkey World sanctuary.

Coach Itinerary

Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway (full day)
We spend the day at Exbury Gardens. Nestled in the New Forest National Park beside the Beaulieu River, the gardens were the inspiration of Lionel Nathan de Rothschild who created one of the finest woodland gardens in the country. Covering a spectacular 200 acre site, the gardens are home to the world-famous Rothschild Collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and rare trees and shrubs. We have time to explore the myriad pathways, woods, parkland and ponds as well as take a relaxing 20 minute trip aboard the 12 ¼ inch gauge Steam Railway through the ‘Summer Lane’ Garden.

Monkey World & Poole (full day)
We enjoy a fascinating start to the day at Monkey World, an ape rescue centre that provides sanctuary to over 250 rescued and endangered primates from around the world. The 65 acre park is home to the stars of TV’s Monkey Life and Monkey Business who have been rehabilitated into natural living groups. Here we have a chance to watch a wide range of species of monkeys and apes interact.

Afterwards, we head to Poole, a bustling resort with a lively quayside, stunning natural harbour and some of the finest beaches in England. It also boasts two Victorian parks, one of which, Poole Park, is a designated Conservation Area and a historic Old Town which still shows evidence of its medieval past.

Optional Excursion
The New Forest including Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst & Lymington - £10pp (full day)
Join us on an optional excursion to the idyllic New Forest, England’s smallest National Park, famous for its tranquil ambience and free roaming ponies. We visit the Forest’s capital of Lyndhurst, the pretty village of Brockenhurst with its old world charm, and the coastal town of Lymington with its cobbled streets and attractive quayside.
