Why rhubarb? We're glad you asked! Wakefield is part of the Rhubarb Triangle, an area of West Yorkshire that has grown the best quality forced rhubarb for hundreds of years. It's so good Yorkshire Forced Rhubarb has received protected name status alongside other famous delicacies such as Parma Ham and Champagne. Rhubarb becomes the stalk of the town every February as the city comes alive with a vibrant celebration of the pink vegetable where the city centre streets will be bursting with colourful market stalls selling speciality food and drink with an abundance of tasty samples to try. Step inside the cosy demonstration marquee and watch as superb talented chefs create delectable rhubarb dishes, you'll be amazed at how much can be done with a few sticks of rhubarb. Give your taste buds a treat as you head outside and sample delicious street food and pop into one of the local cafes and restaurants offering special rhubarb themed dishes. With lively street entertainment, guided walks and lots rhubarb related fun, Wakefield Festival of Food, Drink & Rhubarb promises to be a fantastic day out for everyone.
