Excursions
Your ItineraryFULL DAY: A great day out is planned today as we head for Thirsk and a visit to one of the top attractions in the UK – the World of James Herriot. Here there is time to explore this delightful attraction, where the original practice home of James Herriot and Siegfried Farnon has been fully restored to its 1940s splendour and you can travel back in time to see what life was like when these famous vets were practicing. This afternoon we come to Harrogate, a fashionable spa town in the revered ‘Golden Triangle’ with green parkland, beautiful gardens, boutiques and of course the famous tea shops.
FULL DAY: This morning we head into the Yorkshire Dales and pretty Wharfedale for a visit to the quintessential dale’s town of Grassington, the setting for the modern day adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small. Continuing on we climb through the undulating dales, through Kettlewell, home of the Calendar Girls and come to Wensleydale, where we take time to visit Hawes, England’s highest market town, surrounded by a spectacular landscape and world famous for its cheese making.
FULL DAY: Today we make our way to Keighley, an historic market town, where we join the Keighley & Worth Valley Heritage Railway for a fabulous ride through the Yorkshire Countryside. Made famous by the Railway Children film of the 70’s and also in the return movie of 2022 and featuring in many historical dramas from Peaky Blinders to Brideshead Revisited. After some time in Haworth, famous as the home of the Bronte sisters, we head for Esholt, the original location setting for Emmerdale and where reminders of the show are around every corner, including the famous Woolpack pub.
