Trails & Rails Through Hidden Wales 2021
5 Days | Half Board | by Coach
Highlights: Elan Valley, Welsh Whisky Company, Red Kite visit, Brecon Beacons National Park, Brecon Mountain Railway, Abbey-Cwm-Hir, Welsh Royal Crystal Factory.
In the heart of rural Mid Wales, the little spa town of Llandrindod Wells is a real surprise having developed into a vibrant destination for wealthy Victorian’s in the mid 19th Century on the discovery of the so-called ‘medicinal’ spring waters. From this central location we tour out to explore the wild and wonderful side of Wales.
You’ll see the magnificent, soaring Red Kites, enjoy a guided tour of the beautiful Elan Valley, taste the amazing local whisky, visit one of the most elegant homes in Wales - and step aboard for a memorable steam train ride through the Brecon Beacons National Park too!
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
Full day: This morning we head into the Elan Valley where our local knowledgeable ranger takes us on a fascinating 90 minute circular tour, enjoying the scenery and discovering the importance of the valley. After some time at the Visitor Centre we head to Rhayader and visit the Welsh Royal Crystal Factory showcasing the finest crystalware before we head to see the Red Kites at Gigrin Farm. From our allocated hide we experience the afternoon feed of the wild Red Kites, synonymous with this central region of Wales, along with free time to enjoy the Kites as they soar high above. Afterwards we have included afternoon tea and cake before we return to our hotel.
Full day: This morning we ascend into the Brecon Beacons National Park where we board the Brecon Mountain Railway, one of the most popular railways in Wales, as it steams along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir to Dol-y-Gaer. This afternoon we continue to Penderyn where we visit the Welsh Whisky Company with a chance to taste a drop of their fine malt.
Half day: This morning we visit the stately hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir where the owners have painstakingly restored the hall to its Gothic splendour.
