Highlights: Edinburgh Tattoo, Moffat, Pitlochry, Loch Venacher, Callender, Queen's View, Loch Tummel, Aberfeldy, Glasgow, Trossachs National Park

First performed in 1950 as the army’s contribution to the Edinburgh Festival, the Military Tattoo has become a much-loved annual event, held for a period of three weeks in August on the floodlit Castle Esplanade. Whilst primarily a military display, it is a colourful and exciting performance by marching bands in a dramatic evening setting high above the city. Our seven day break includes the majesty
of the Tattoo with the contrasting scenery of the Highlands, the serenity of the Trossachs and the warmth of our friendly hotel in the centre of the Stirling.

Itinerary

Itinerary

SUNDAY: From local joining points we make our way towards the north of England and our overnight stop.

MONDAY: Heading over the border we make a short visit to Moffat and the well known woollen mills before continuing on to our hotel in Stirling.

TUESDAY: This morning into the Trossachs National Park and the shores of Loch Katrine before we continue to the popular tourist centre of Callander with its close associations to the poet Sir Walter Scott. Returning, we pass the shores of Loch Venacher.

WEDNESDAY: A day at leisure to enjoy Stirling at your own pace. After an early dinner we head for Edinburgh in good time for our evening performance of the Edinburgh Tattoo. The Tattoo commences at 9.00pm and is in the open air, so be prepared in case of inclement weather – umbrellas are not allowed! The Tattoo finishes at approximately 11.00pm and we make our way back to the hotel.

THURSDAY: After a leisurely breakfast we journey to the edge of the Scottish Highlands. Lochs and mountains abound today as we head for the pleasant town of Crieff and on to the Highland resort and popular tourist centre of Pitlochry. This afternoon we visit Queen’s View - Queen Victoria’s favourite viewpoint with its breathtaking views of Loch Tummel and the surrounding mountains - before following the shores of Loch Tummel to pretty Aberfeldy.
