Excursions
Your ItineraryFULL DAY: D-Day Story & Hovercraft 'flight' to Ryde, Isle of Wight
We start the day with a visit to the D-Day Story in Southsea where the story of this momentous event is told through archive films, landing craft, weapons and the 83 metre Overlord Embroidery. Afterwards we take a unique ‘flight’ by hovercraft from Southsea beach across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Landing in Ryde there is free time to explore this small resort before returning by hovercraft to Southsea and re-joining our coach.
FULL DAY: Weald & Downland Living Museum & Chichester
Into the West Sussex Hills today as we visit the Weald & Downland Living Museum, depicting rural Sussex living through the centuries through historic buildings period gardens and informative exhibitions and demonstrations. It is also home to BBC’s The Repair Shop that is filmed in the 17th century Court Barn. Afterwards we enjoy some free time in Chichester with its Roman walls, well preserved historic houses and 12th century cathedral.
FULL DAY: The New Forest, Lyndhurst & Buckler’s Hard
Today we tour deep into the New Forest, keeping an eye out for the elusive New Forest ponies. We visit the capital, Lyndhurst, before reaching Buckler’s Hard. This fascinating place was an 18th century shipbuilding village on the banks of the Beaulieu River. Remaining very much as it once was it provides a revealing look into a past of when Nelson’s navy was built
