Excursions
Your Itinerary:SUNDAY: Join your Grand UK Tour Manager and your fellow travellers at London Euston for our lunchtime journey to Liverpool. After a short transfer to the terminal we board the evening fast ferry to Douglas. On arrival in Douglas we transfer to the Chesterhouse Hotel for our five night stay. (Evening dinner not included on this day).
MONDAY: A leisurely start to the day before we take the short walk along the promenade to take the electric train to Laxey. Here we join the Snaefell Mountain Railway for the ascent to the top of the Island’s only mountain. Far reaching views await – on a clear day as far as England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland! We return to Laxey with free time to discover the town and the famous Laxey Wheel – the world’s largest working waterwheel and included with your Explorer Pass.
TUESDAY: Today we discover the south of the island and board the Isle of Man Steam Railway to Port Erin with its beautiful bay and golden beach. Later we return by train to Castletown, the ancient capital of the Island, where there is time to visit the House of Keys and/or the Nautical Museum (included with your Explorer Pass).
WEDNESDAY: By local road services we cross the island, to St Johns, setting of the annual open air Manx Parliament on Tynwald Hill. Then it’s on to the fishing port of Peel, with its ruined castle overlooking the harbour, a traditional kipper smokery and antique shops along the alleyways. With your pass perhaps take time to visit Peel Castle or the House of Manannan where the island’s mythological sea god guides you through the rich Celtic and Viking past.
THURSDAY: Today we join the Manx Electric Railway and travel the complete length of the line to the harbour town of Ramsey in the north of the island. Hugging the coastline and offering lovely views and tranquil countryside this is a scenic delight. This afternoon we return to Douglas with the afternoon at leisure.
FRIDAY: An early departure for the ferry to Heysham before our return journey to London Euston, arriving late afternoon.
