With plenty of time for sightseeing in Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava and a warm welcome aboard the Esmeralda, this is a truly wonderful way to explore this spectacular river and its rich heritage.

Your Itinerary

DAY 1: From local joining points we cross the Channel and continue on to our overnight stop.

DAY 2: Continue through Germany to reach the Esmeralda in the border town of Linz.

DAY 3: Leaving Linz early this morning to cruise downstream into the scenic Wachau area, where the riverside slopes are dotted with picturesque villages and ancient castles. By evening we reach Austria’s capital, Vienna.

DAY 4: A full day to explore Vienna. We enjoy a guided tour this morning before time at leisure, perhaps taking time to see the grand Ringstrasse and Hofburg Palace. This evening over dinner we begin our overnight cruise towards Hungary.

DAY 5: The winding Danube Bend heralds our approach to Budapest during breakfast. Our morning guided tour then reveals the two sides of the River - Buda and Pest before the afternoon is free to enjoy the ‘Queen of the Danube’. This evening we cruise upstream towards Slovakia.

DAY 6: This afternoon we arrive in the Slovakian capital, Bratislava where the old town has steeply gabled roofs, cobbled streets and squares overlooked by the old royal castle.

DAY 7: Departing early we cruise throughout the day, passing by Vienna and arriving in the old fortified town of Durnstein late afternoon.

DAY 8: A short cruise to Melk where we include a visit to the stunning Benedictine Abbey sitting high above the Danube. This afternoon we conclude our cruise, returning to Linz by mid-evening.

DAY 9: Disembarking the Esmeralda we return through Germany to our overnight stop.

DAY 10: We return across the Channel and homeward bound.

The Esmeralda is a spacious, superior, river cruise ship with 63 outward facing cabins on two decks with a homely friendly atmosphere. The vessel has air-conditioning throughout.

Public areas include: • Forward lounge/bar on Promenade Deck • Restaurant on the Main Deck • Partially covered Sun Deck

All cabins include: • Picture window • Shower & toilet • Satellite television • Safety deposit box • Twin beds at floor level • Continental electricity socket (220 volts)

Please note: Prices reflect cabin location. Promenade Deck cabins are higher above the waterline and have better views. There is a stair lift between Main and Promenade Deck and Promenade Deck and Sun Deck. Whilst there is a stair lift on board wheelchair access to and from ship is not possible.
