We begin in the market town of Skipton, dominated by its castle overlooking the town before we take a nostalgic ride on the The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, a picturesque 5-mile branch line railway set in the heart of West Yorkshire travelling through Bronte Country and made famous by its use in the film adaptation of the Railway Children.
FULL DAY: Oswaldtwistle Mills & the East Lancs Steam Railway
Across the Pennines today to board the East Lancashire Steam Railway to Rawtenstall, hugging the Irwell Valley. We continue through Rossendale, passing through Lancashire’s once prosperous mill towns to reach Oswaldtwistle Mills. Lancashire’s premier mill attraction houses shops and cafés in what was one of the region’s leading cotton mills.
EXTENDED HALF DAY: Hebden Bridge, Halifax & the Piece Hall
First to Hebden Bridge, where the successful TV drama Happy Valley was filmed, before we make our way to Halifax, once one of the most prosperous towns in the country when the cloth and cotton mills drove the country’s economy.
