NEW FOR 2026This wonderful new tour for 2026 explores the spectacular and largely unspoilt county of Northumberland. Our base is the lively city of Newcastle, named after a castle first built during Roman times but now a modern and friendly city on the banks of the River Tyne with no fewer than seven bridges spanning the river. There is a bustling quayside and a vibrant city centre full of cafés, restaurants and museums while holiday excursions take in the Northumbrian coastline, a superb trip by train to Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Tattoo and a visit to ancient Durham with its magnificent cathedral.

Excursions
Your Itinerary:MONDAY: Today join your Tour Manager at London Kings Cross Station and take the East Coast Line to the city of Newcastle. On arrival transfer to your nearby hotel.
TUESDAY: Today we board our coach to visit Holy Island, known locally as Lindisfarne, famed for being the birthplace of English Christianity. We return via the stunning Northumbria coastal route stopping in Bamburgh with its iconic castle and fascinating Grace Darling Museum.
WEDNESDAY: We take the train after lunch and head north following the Northumbrian coastline through dramatic scenery, over spectacular bridges, crossing into Scotland to arrive in the capital, Edinburgh. Here there is so much to see and explore before attending the spectacular event that is the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Afterwards we return to Newcastle by coach for a late arrival back to our hotel.
THURSDAY: A later start today as we take the train to the ancient city of Durham, founded over 1,000 years ago and home to the magnificent Durham Cathedral. This afternoon we embark on the Prince Bishop river cruiser which offers unrivalled views of the city, cathedral, castle and bridges as we cruise along the River Wear, before taking the train back to Newcastle.
FRIDAY: This morning we transfer to Newcastle Station and the journey back to Kings Cross, London arriving early afternoon.
