Hightlights: Snowdonia, Isle of Anglesey, Menai Straits Cruise, Portmeirion, Llangollen, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct Cruise
This little gem of a tour explores some of the ‘hidden’ treasures of this beautiful part of the British Isles. The Isle of Anglesey has a history spanning thousands of years, attached by iconic bridges across the famous Menai Straits and we have included a cruise to enjoy these fabulous structures close-up. Back on dry land another highlight is a visit to Portmeirion - built as a tourist holiday destination in the 1920’s in Italianate style, and nowadays one of Wales’ premier tourist attractions.
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
Itinerary
Excursions
FULL DAY: Today we head onto the Isle of Anglesey to visit Beaumaris, boasting a magnificent castle, pretty pier and lovely promenade. From here we join our boat cruise along the scenic Menai Straits, passing Victorian piers, lavish homes on ‘Millionaire Row’, towards the iconic bridges of Thomas Telford and Robert Stephenson, the infamous ‘Swillies’ and the islands of Tysilio and Yns Gored.
FULL DAY: We head through the Snowdonia National Park on our way to Portmeirion Village, created by architect Clough Williams-Ellis in 1925 as a purpose built holiday destination and finished in 1976. Used as the setting for the popular 1960’s TV series, The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan, the village is now considered to be one of Wales’ premier attractions.
HALF DAY: To Llangollen this morning on the banks of the River Dee. From here we board our boat for the journey across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the longest and highest cast iron aqueduct on earth - the 'River in the Sky'.
