SUNDAY: Crossing into Scotland we head into the Highlands and to our hotel for four nights.
MONDAY: A day at leisure to explore Grantown-on-Spey or perhaps venture along the Spey Valley by public transport. This area, in the heart of “Whisky Country” is a scenic delight with Grantown at its centre offering a real Scottish charm.
TUESDAY: Through the spectacular Cairngorm Mountains today, a range of heather-clad hills and peaks, offering far reaching vistas and wildlife in abundance, a landscaped much loved by the late Queen Elizabeth II. This touring day takes us to Braemar, an ancient village, holiday playground and home to the famous Braemar Gathering. We then continue to pretty-as-a-picture Ballater, the closest village to Balmoral Castle, and where you’ll find ‘By Royal Appointment’ signs and specialty shops.
WEDNESDAY: Today as we make our way Dochgarroch and board our boat to set sail along the famous Caledonian Canal gliding through the Great Glen and into the legendary waters of Loch Ness. Disembarking, we head for Inverness, known as the ‘Capital of the Highlands’ before arriving at Culloden Moor and the Battlefield Visitor Centre, where you can experience the battle with its enveloping surround-cinema effects.
THURSDAY: This morning we enjoy a ride on the perfectly preserved Strathspey Steam Railway that winds its way through the magnificent Spey Valley. There is free time to enjoy the tourist resort of Aviemore before we head for Balir Atholl and the Blair Atholl Distillery for a tour and a taste of Scotland made from the pure waters of the Allt Dour.
FRIDAY: Leaving the Highlands behind we return south through Scotland and returning across the border to our overnight stop.
