Battle Of Britain 2021
5 Days Half Board by Coach
Highlights: RAF Digby, Newark Air Museum, Petwood House, RAF Coningsby, RAF Winthorpe, Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby, International Bomber Command Centre
Lincolnshire has a vast aviation heritage and is renowned as the ‘Home of the Royal Air Force’.
The county’s flat open countryside made it ideal for development of airfields during the Great War, and during World War II Lincolnshire became the most important home of Bomber Command.
Combining visits to museums and trailing some of the former RAF stations in the area, our fascinating itinery bears witness to the courage, determinations and bravery of the men and women who served our country in more turbulent times.
Your hotel stay includes an evening talk from our aviation historian!
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
Full Day: Today we head for RAF Digby, an operational signals base, for a guided tour of the now restored Operations Room. This afternoon enjoy a visit to the Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby where the famous AVRO Lancaster ‘Just Jane’ is based along with an award winning collection of WWII memorabilia.
Full Day: This morning we head to Petwood House, home of 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron, for morning coffee before we reach Thorpe Camp, a museum dedicated to 617 Squadron, and converted from the old NAAFI of RAF Woodhall Spa. This afternoon we continue to RAF Coningsby, home of The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which could include Spitfires, Hurricanes or the only flying Lancaster in Britain.
Full Day: This morning we visit the newly inaugurated International Bomber Command Centre overlooking the city of Lincoln. This afternoon we take a fascinating trip to Newark Air Museum, situated on the site of RAF Winthorpe, which offers a superb insight into the history of aviation.
