This sightseeing getaway is based in Castlebar where you’ll have free time to perhaps take a leisurely stroll through the Mayo Peace Park or wander around Lough Lannagh with its walking trails and picnic areas. Look forward to a guided walking tour of Galway, a harbour city on Ireland’s west coast that rests at a picturesque spot where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean. The heart of this city lies in Eyre Square, which dates back to medieval times and is also known as the John F Kennedy Memorial Park in honour of the US president who made a speech here in 1963. It is a popular meeting place featuring interesting focal points and flanked by traditional Irish music pubs. On another day, we immerse ourselves in history with a guided tour of Westport House, a Georgian-era estate and one of the few privately owned notable homes in Ireland. We also visit the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, home to all things Irish, and set in thirty acres of parkland featuring an ornamental lake and a Victorian gothic mansion.

Guided Walking Tour of GalwayA guided walking tour of Galway, a handsome city, ideally compact for a stroll through its winding streets. Here you’ll find a bustling waterfront and foreboding Lynch’s Castle, a well preserved fortified townhouse from the Middle Ages. There is also bustling Eyre Square and a Latin Quarter with medieval buildings, twisting lanes and quirky cafes. The city’s impressive cathedral is located on Nuns’ Island, accessed by a bridge and featuring a mighty dome, artwork and stained glass windows.
Guided Tour of Westport House & Westport
We include a guided tour of Westport House, one of Ireland’s best loved heritage attractions with sumptuously furnished period rooms and incredible tales encompassing kings, queens, pirates, slave emancipators and even Greek sarcophagi! Outside, amid 400 acres of leafy green landscape you’ll find formal gardens, an aviary, mini railway and sparkling lake. Afterwards, free time in Westport, a leafy Georgian town, home to splendid churches, graceful avenues, and a heritage centre.
National Museum of Ireland - Country Life
A morning visit to the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, home to interesting exhibitions including the National Folklife Collection. The Times: Rural Ireland 1850 – 1950 is one of the permanent exhibitions and it showcases events from the aftermath of the Great Famine to the ending of ties with Britain. Free time in Castlebar in the afternoon.
