Itinerary

Overview

This holiday of contrasts is based on the outskirts of Aberdeen, a city rich in heritage and boasting an array of museums. Attractions include the Maritime Museum, majestic St Machar’s Cathedral, a seventeenth century jail known as The Tolbooth and the Gordon Highlanders Museum which tells the story of one of the most celebrated regiments of the British Army. Stroll along Aberdeen’s bracing Beach Boulevard or head to Duthie Park where you’ll find acres of gardens with fountains and ponds. We explore Royal Deeside visiting Braemar, a Highland settlement surrounded by the Grampian Mountains and we call at picturesque Ballater which lies in the shadow of Balmoral Castle. We also visit the quaint tourist magnet of Alford.

Your Excursions

Alford Heritage Centre & Alford Valley Railway
We head to Alford a small country town skirted by the River Don and home to a narrow gauge railway†. Guests on our July and August dates can look forward to a scenic trip on this old fashioned train line taking you to Haughton Park. GLENTONEERS on other dates may like to explore the interesting Heritage Centre or head to the Grampian Transport Museum where you can climb aboard the vehicle exhibits and view the artefacts.

Ballater & Braemar
This majestic outing takes us to picture postcard Ballater, the nearest village to Balmoral Castle and where you’ll find “By Royal Appointment” signs and speciality shops. Later we move on to Braemar, an ancient village, home to the famous Braemar Gathering.
