Sligo has hosted a St Patrick’s Day Parade for nearly five decades and its annual event sees this historic port town burst into life with fabulous free events, elaborate floats and an energetic parade that winds through the enchanting streets. We stay at the traditional, family run Murphy’s Hotel in Tubbercurry which has spacious lounges and hosts entertainment. Out and about, we visit the graceful Georgian town of Westport, home to a heritage centre and to grandiose Westport House. We also head to Carrick-on-Shannon, a riverside town steeped in history with a modern marina that gives access to the River Shannon.
