5 Day Coach Holiday

Enjoy seaside and city along with a soupçon of nostalgia on this enchanting holiday. Based in St Annes, a classic coastal resort, known as the ‘Garden Town by the Sea’, thanks to its well-kept parks. St Annes has been home to stars such as Les Dawson and George Formby, and boasts manicured gardens, sand dunes, Victorian pier, boating lake and a charming promenade. Perhaps visit the Heritage Centre, Ashton Gardens or head to Fairhaven Lake to watch out for wildlife or take a boat trip. We include a guided tour of the resort’s Grade I listed Lytham Hall, a Georgian house set in parkland which houses fine art and furnishings. We spend a day in Liverpool where you can explore at your own pace perhaps taking in the superb museums at Albert Dock or boarding the colourful ferry across the Mersey for the ultimate sightseeing experience. We also visit the fascinating British Commercial Vehicle Museum where you can take a deep delve into nostalgia as you experience the sounds, smells and sights of yesteryear. The museum is housed in the original inspection building of Leyland Motors and is where you can view exhibits such as vintage fire engines, retro buses and lovingly preserved trucks as you listen to real people’s stories.

Your Excursions

Liverpool
Visitor attractions include Albert Dock where you can step back to the 1960s and discover how four young Liverpool lads were thrust to the dizzying heights of fame at The Beatles Story - a living history museum where the band’s legend unfolds through memorabilia,
photographs, and replicas. Sticking with the Fab Four, perhaps venture through the bright red gates of Strawberry Field – the famous grounds where a young John Lennon came to reflect. This interactive experience tells the tale of the Victorian children’s home and John Lennon’s childhood. Albert Dock is also home to The Tate Liverpool, International Slavery Museum, and the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Perhaps follow the time-honoured tradition of catching the ferry across the Mersey, or use the hop on, hop off bus to see the sights.

British Commercial Vehicle Museum
At this time capsule, you can follow the evolving story of transport as you view exhibits from early horse drawn coaches to the hybrid electric buses of today. Exhibits include vintage ice cream vans, old fashioned cars, fire engines, huge trucks, and even the Popemobile that was made for Pope John Paul II with each vehicle having a story to tell. View the souvenirs in the shop and perhaps enjoy a cuppa at the Heritage Café.

Guided Tour of Lytham Hall
A morning guided tour of Lytham Hall, a Grade I listed 18th century Georgian manor house. Your guide will reveal all about the colourful Clifton family who were accused of conspiracy during a plot to restore James II to the throne. View intricate plasterwork, Gillow furniture, family portraits and historic artwork. Afterwards, have a cuppa in the tea room or explore the beautiful grounds where you’ll find manicured gardens, a lily pond, and a dovecote. Rest of the day free in St Annes.
