Relax aboard your floating hotel as you discover the charms of the quaint riverside settlements that hug the banks of the Rhine and Moselle. Andernach is a little gem that is home to the world’s highest cold water spouting geyser, Cochem features snaking streets of wine taverns tucked below imposing Reichsburg Castle and bustling Boppard has a chairlift that gently glides visitors up to the stunning Niederwald viewpoint. Rudesheim boasts historical treasures as well as the buzzing Drosselgasse thoroughfare with its lively music bars while historic Koblenz nestles at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, watched over by a mighty statue of Kaiser Wilhelm mounted on his horse.
Your Holiday Itinerary
Day One. Join direct at Edinburgh Airport for your flight to Cologne-Bonn. You will then be transferred to the Prinses Christina to settle in before dinner.
Day Two. We embark on our cruise, passing bonny Bonn and into the Rhine Valley with its sloping vineyards, romantic castles and the colourful little villages that stud its banks. We arrive at the old Roman town of Andernach for free time to explore.
Day Three. We leave the Rhine at Koblenz, cruising upstream on the winding Moselle and stopping at popular Cochem, a traditional German village where history and folklore are woven into every alleyway and snaking streets of wine taverns huddle beneath storybook Reichsburg Castle.
Day Four. We rejoin the Rhine and sail onwards to the bustling tourist magnet of Boppard, a resort brimful of medieval charm.
Day Five. Gliding between the steep slopes and craggy rocks of the Rhine Gorge, we pass historic castles en route to popular Rudesheim. Perhaps wander the quirky alleyways exploring the historical treasures, visit the Middle Ages Torture Museum or catch the chairlift up to the striking Germania monument.
Day Six. Returning through the Rhine Gorge, we arrive at two thousand year old Koblenz with its abundance of cultural monuments and atmospheric squares in its Old Town. Perhaps hop aboard the ultra modern cable car that whisks you up to thje ancient Prussian Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
Day Seven. Passing the remains of the famous bridge at Remagen, we return to Cologne where we have time to visit the majestic cathedral which houses the Shrine of the Three Kings.
Day Eight. We transfer to Cologne-Bonn Airport for our return flight to Edinburgh.
